Game played 11/24/2024.
General Game Notes: Brampton were hosting an afternoon game with the visiting team Soo Grey Hounds and if you were interested in watching a wide open, old time hockey style of offensive hockey, coupled with a lot of big hits and ensuing fisticuffs, then you were in for a treat. Defense was not really a consideration and some players taking liberties with late hits on young players was not a pretty sight to see. All in all the home team Steelheads behind a breakout game from an unsuspecting player ( Kieran Witkowsski 3 goals ) and a contribution from a pure goal scorer( Carson Rehkopf also with 3 goals) went on to beat the Hounds 8-5.
Jack Ivankovic (G, L, 5’11”, 178, Brampton Steelheads, 05/22/2007)
Grade: B
Comments: Jack seems to be struggling with his confidence throughout the game, as sometimes he is assertive when allowed to see the puck, and Jack usually fares well in those situations. Then Jack is pushed back in his net within his crease area, and he has trouble securing the rebounds if he makes the save. This is the first time I’ve seen Jack unsure of his identity as a top goaltender in this league. Maybe his confidence is shaken due to a depleted defense who is missing a couple of hard playing player’s due to injuries. It also could be that this season Jack is putting pressure on himself in order to please the critics and scouts. When Jack gets back to being himself and not anyone else then he will be just fine.
Jakub Fibigr (D, L, 6’0″, 171, Brampton Steelheads, 07/22/2006)
Grade: B
Comments: Jakub was able to flourish in this wide open style of game, scoring a couple of assists and moving relatively untouched for most of the game. Jakub still is unable to compete against the physical style opponents as he seems to shy away from the contact. He will have to correct this in the near future if he has any aspirations of playing in the professional ranks.
Kieran Witkowski (LW, L, 5’11”, 180, Brampton Steelheads, 02/07/2007)
Grade: B
Comments: What we think we saw tonight was hopefully Kieran becoming the player that has the potential to fill the net with pucks, as he had his best offensively productive game, while doing what he can do. Score goals. Kieran has good skating speed and is doing his best to learn the defensive side responsibilities, while not losing sight of what he does well and that is scoring goals. Kieran scored three goals today and the puck seemed to follow him around. Now he can work on passing to his mates and going harder to the net like his veteran team mate Rehkopf does to get the bigger, more consistent results.
Carson Rehkopf (C, L, 6’2″, 202, Brampton Steelheads, 01/07/2005)
Grade: B+
Comments: Carson was on the receiving end tonight of many unselfish passes from his line mates especially Martone. Porter had Carson’s stick in his sights this afternoon and helped Carson get his hat trick. If not for these guys being in sync the game could have had a different outcome. Nothing else to report as Carson continues to put the puck in the net and will need to defend when he saunters around on the defensive side of the puck. Doesn’t appear to want to really commit to the hard work he will need to do to get the defensive positioning he will eventually have to fight for to win the little battles each shift he plays.
Porter Martone (RW, R, 6’3″, 208, Brampton Steelheads, 10/26/2006)
Grade: B+
Comments: Porter had many chances to play a selfish style of game and take shots, but instead chose to pass the puck, when arguably he could have shot the puck and possibly scored goals. The passes were unexpected, especially for us and the opponents. Results were 4 goals, 3 by Rehkopf and 1 from Misa. All goals were scored while even strength. Now Porter and his line mates could shore up their play defensively, as they were scored against 4 times. Luck would have it that a few other team mates also scored, other then the big line, and the team came up with a win.
Caeden Carlisle (D, L, 6’1″, 195, Soo Greyhounds, 01/31/2004)
Grade: B+
Comments: Caeden probably is the defender that provides a calming influence to many of his teams young defenders, as he has a presence and assertive manner to his physical style of play. Caeden is the captain of a rebuilding, young team and from the back end of a relatively smaller defense, he provides some genuine toughness. Caeden appears to not get flustered and is always there for his mates. Caeden also has some offensive capabilities, especially with his good shot from the point and accurate passing, that includes vision to breaking forwards into open lanes.
Spencer Evans (D, L, 6’0″, 190, Soo Greyhounds, 2006)
Grade: B
Comments: Spencer was playing as a 3-4 secondary defender and for us was effective in all areas displaying a very good defending with stick and good body positioning style of play. Moves very well on the offense when he jumps up with the rush and was utilized in 5 on 5 or the PP. Could play well against the opposing teams mid sized players, although was having difficulty handling the power forwards as he is being pushed around often. Spencer was hit by one of these bigger player’s in the middle of the second period, with a questionable late hit, and never returned after he was assisted by the training staff to the dressing room.
Charlie Hilton (LW, L, 6’5″, 215, Soo Greyhounds, 09/15/2006)
Grade: B
Comments: Charlie has the size and stick skills to play in this league. Charlie can also fight. He took exception to a late hit earlier in the game and we found out that Charlie has the balance and reach to’ throw em’. The player that Charlie was fighting with is a veteran of this league and is known for his ability to also ‘ throw em’. Both player’s landed a couple until Charlie took the decision after a spirited bout.
Justin Cloutier (RW, R, 5’8″, 181, Soo Greyhounds, 06/20/2005)
Grade: B+
Comments: Justin is a highly skilled offensive first player, followed closely with a very good stealing with good stick lifting technique and body positioning defending. We are wondering if Justin could gain another gear with a hard summer of conditioning and strength training because we like his game processing.
Marco Mignosa (RW, R, 5’11”, 175, Soo Greyhounds, 04/13/2005)
Grade: B+
Comments: Marco is a goal scorer and reminds us of another player that has the same characteristics like a player who is classified as a hired gun in the NHL named Tyler Toffoli. Marco is just a year or so behind as his build is slighter and he doesn’t have as much meat on his bones, yet. Absolutely can do the same things as the above mentioned NHL’er as he has the fast draw hands, accurate shot and with some hard work in the gym will become the same. Scored two slick goals when he saw an open seam in the defense and made a very good goalkeeper (Ivankovic) look ordinary.
Brady Martin (C, R, 6’0″, 178, Soo Greyhounds, 01/01/2007)
Grade: A-
Comments: Brady is one of the premier player’s in this league with his high energy, compete and finishing every checking assignment that he sets out to complete. The top end speed is not quite where it needs to get to and we have no doubt that Brady will find a way to continue his quest in becoming the best hockey player that he can be. No doubt in this game who is the real deal when it comes to a true professional hockey player with the complete two way game that is required to play at the top. Two assists and a goal. Tireless effort and playing hard minutes.
