Minnesota Duluth associate head coach Jason Herter announced earlier this week that he was leaving the program. According to Neutral Zone sources, Herter is seeking a job in pro scouting, which would allow him more time to be with his family.
“As rumored in social media yesterday, I am currently pursuing new opportunities in the game of hockey,” Herter said. “I have been part of a great run for Bulldog Hockey and I was proud to play a role in that. I look forward to the next stage of my hockey career. I will always be a Bulldog!”
Herter, since enlisting his services with the Bulldogs, has been part of two NCAA national champions (2018 and 2019), five NCAA Tournament participants (2012 and 2015-19) and two NCHC Frozen Faceoff winners (2017 and 2019).
“We thank Jason for his hard work over the last 9 years and wish him and his family the very best,” said Scott Sandelin.
A native of Hafford, Saskatchewan, Herter doubled as the head coach and general manager for the United States Hockey League’s Fargo (N.D.) Force nine years ago. He joined the Force in 2008-09 for their inaugural season as an assistant coach as well as spending time scouting for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL prior to joining UMD.
In light of COVID-19, UMD said that a search for a replacement will begin as soon as appropriate.
