Minnesota announced this week that all youth sports, including high school sports, are being paused for the next four weeks. This news comes just as the Minnesota high school hockey season was about to start; practices for hockey were set to begin on Monday.
“An element of frustration from some coaches exists, but it hasn’t been the loud, banging kind,” said Mike MacMillan, executive director, Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association. “Our coaches and leadership have been very supportive of the decisions being made throughout the shutdown and will be throughout this pause. We want our kids to be safe.”
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz made the decision and it was announced on Wednesday. The decision was made due to concerns about running out of hospital capacity for COVID patients.
