The Connecticut Chiefs controlled most of the 1st period as it was HC Rhode Island's goaltender, Callum Welch, keeping them in the game, turning aside several Grade A scoring chances from the Chiefs. The second period would be more of an even battle but the Chiefs continued to make it difficult for Rhode Island to generate high quality scoring chances. The Chiefs opened up the scoring 6 minutes into the 2nd period when a turnover at the offensive blue line for Rhode Island proved to be costly . . .
