Neutral Zone’s Mark Bilotta was in attendance at the first day of the Mass HS Hockey Showcase, taking place at O’Brien Rink in Woburn, Mass.
“It was a great pace to the games today,” Bilotta said. “We saw three games, six total teams participating. Many of the top teams across the MIAA were in attendance.”
Here are standouts from each team:
Bilotta Squad – Michael Taylor (D, R, 5’11”, 165, Triton HS, 03/01/2007)
“He was really good here. Used his feet extremely well. He shortened the transition window, getting the puck up to his forwards quickly. He was able to slice his way through defenders. Even scored a goal here short side where he picked his spot. Really nice work by Mikey today.”
Catholic – Drew Karlovits (G, L, 5’7″, 115, BC High, 08/26/2008) & Harrison DeFeo (G, 5’11”, 140, Boch Blazers, 06/20/2008)
“Both of them were excellent all the way through. Drew Karlovits especially was making some impressive saves with his feet. He was kicking pucks out, he was great on the reach laterally. He looked really good as did DeFeo, making a couple of impressive kick saves.”
Middlesex – Jack McEleney (F, L, 6’0″, 160, Woburn HS, 07/07/2007)
“Was all over the ice here. He was big, he was strong, he was effective. Possessed the puck really well. Scored two goals in this game which should not come as a surprise. He does it all during the regular season for Woburn. He will be a player to watch out for this coming season.”
Public All-Stars – Jake Cunha (D, R, Tewksbury HS, 01/01/2009)
“He showed a great ability with his feet. He was slicing his way through opposing players. He was really good as well finding his way to the net. Scored a nice goal here – one of the better ones that we saw from a defenseman of any player in this showcase today.”
Route 2 Selects – Tyler Heldenbergh (F, L, 5’8″, 145, Arlington Catholic, 04/19/2007)
“He showed a quality shot that he was able to get through traffic on net. Showed great edge work as well and he was taking ice all game long. He played really consistently here for Route 2 Selects.”
South Central – Jack Doherty (F, L, 5’8″, 145, Marshfield HS, 11/10/2006)
“Scored a couple of goals in this game. He was super effective. Started this game off right in the first period with the Forsberg move, putting it past the goaltender. Really effective at finding ice and making scoring plays and effective plays offensively. He was great here.”
