There wasn't much happening early in this contest, scoring-wise, but the visiting Spruce Grove Saints gave the Silverbacks every opportunity as they took a 4-minute high-sticking penalty just 6 seconds into the game and dug themselves into another hole late in the first with a 5-minute kneeing major. The Silverbacks couldn't score on either power play, but workhorse and captain Maddux Martin scored right after the major expired to make it 1-0.
