The two high scoring offenses traded goals throughout the first half of the game before the Avalanche took control, out-skating HCRI in the second half and dominating most of the play. HCRI's lack of discipline hurt them as they tried to mount a comeback, losing their cool at times and looking disjointed as a group. Three standout performers from the game were Avalanche forwards Danny Storella and Gavin Berntsen, and Avalanche defenseman Mason Scanlon.
