Weymouth, MA – Senior night is supposed to be a memorable evening on your last game played in your home barn and the Wildcats made sure it would be for their 10 seniors. Weymouth started strong and played solid team defense to record a 2-0 win from Connell Rink.
Sophomore forward Ryan Ferguson looked like he would get the Wildcats on the board with 5:21 left in the opening period but he was stuffed on a breakaway by Barnstable senior goalie Aden Mehta. The Wildcats would earn a power play just after that chance with 5:15 left in the period. Senior Jack Brady scored on the power play assisted by senior Johnny Bell and junior Alex Stockton to give Weymouth a 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later sophomore Michael Curry doubled the lead when he scored assisted by Ferguson and Brody Dearden with 1:45 left in the first period. That would be our score after one.
The middle period saw lots of back-and-forth action and Barnstable super sophomore Chase Field had several scoring opportunities but couldn’t get one past Weymouth senior goalie Grady Salfity and the teams would go to the third with Weymouth still leading 2-0.
The third period was a lot like the middle frame. Weymouth switched goalies and senior Michael Pittman would be tested when Field created a breakaway that rung the crossbar. Barnstable defenseman Luke Harmon showed off his speed and offensive skill during the period, but could not capitalize on his chances. Weymouth finished a strong defensive game and earned the shutout, shared by seniors Salfity and Pittman.
