Framingham, MA – In the second game of a Final Four Doubleheader at Loring Arena, the DIII teams took center stage as second-seeded Shawsheen Tech Rams took on the number 10 seed Medfield Warriors. They have won two tight 2-1 games while Shawsheen won two games by a combined 6-1 score. Junior Charles Duggan started for the Warriors in net while senior Mike Cedrone took the crease for the Rams.
Play was even in the first period with physical play and some quality goaltending. Medfield had the only power play of the frame and generated some chances but Shawsheen’s Chase Darcey stole a puck and went in all alone, shorthanded. He hit the post. Chances for both teams came from turnovers so puck management will be a topic of conversation between periods we are sure. The first ended 0-0.
The second period was physical and back and forth. Medfield’s Charlie Hardiman snapped a hard shot in-stride off the far post that was very, very close to being in the net. Then Shawsheen Tech broke through on a rebound goal by senior Liam Milne with the initial shot taken by classmate Kyle Gray. It was 1-0 Rams with 4:37 left in the first. Shawsheen held the 1-0 lead as the teams went to their locker rooms.
In the third period, both teams worked hard and created chances. Duggan and Cedrone traded great saves and the physical play did not relent. Medfield called a timeout with 1:25 left and a defensive zone faceoff. They took Duggan out with 1:09 left and created chances 6v5 immediately. Cedrone made a game-saving stop as Medfield had a point-blank chance with 18.5 seconds left. One more faceoff in the Shawsheen end with 13 seconds left. Darcey won the draw and the Rams cleared the puck to seal the shutout and a 1-0 win. They advance to face six seed Marblehead at Stoneham Arena on March 9 at 4pm for a chance to get to the Garden.
