Woburn, MA – Winchester hosted Malden Catholic in a clash of Catholic Conference and Middlesex League teams. Connor Fitzpatrick started for the Lancers, and Macklin O’Flynn for Winchester. Winchester won 3-0 on scores from three different players and a shutout from O’Flynn.
In the first period, Winchester carried play early. MC pushed back some and earned a power play where they had a few chances. With 3:02 remaining in the first, Caiden Brady hammered a one-timer post and home from Axel Osborn and Chris McCarthy to give Winchester the lead. At 2:27, Winchester scored again when Nick Romanos popped a rebound home from Johnny Garmey and Dayton Ogden. It was 2-0 Winchester in a flash and that is how the opening frame ended.
The second period was scoreless with neither team able to sustain any offensive pressure.
The third started with O’Flynn stopping a breakaway a few minutes in. Winchester scored the third goal with 10:50 left, ending any chance of an MC comeback. McCarthy ripped a shot home, assisted by Osborn and Brady.
