Tewksbury, MA – Puck Prodigy is organizing a first of its kind event: the 2025 Bay State Skills Competition for boys and girls varsity Massachusetts high school hockey players. The event will occur on April 19, 2025, at Breakaway Ice Center in Tewksbury, MA. Players will compete in four NHL-like competitions: Fastest Skater, Hardest Shot, Accuracy Shooting, and One-on-One. Players can choose to compete in a single competition (e.g. fastest skater) or multiple competitions.
“Massachusetts hosts All-Star Games and playoff games under the bright lights, but how many chances do you get to prove your skills are elite across the entire state? I look forward to checking this out and sharing some great highlights across our social channels.” Mark Bilotta, Director of MassNZ.
Categories and Divisions
The competition will be broken into boys and girls divisions and players will be categorized by their team’s Mass HS divisions (D1-2 for girls; D1-4 for boys). First, second, and third place finishers in each competition, category, and division will receive an award plaque—and the top three finishers in each competition across all divisions will receive an additional award and the ultimate bragging rights as the best in the entire state.
“I think it’s great; go challenge yourself in some skills events after the season and outside of the strain and stress of a long year.” Brian Murphy, Director of US Scouting for Neutral Zone.
Trick Shot Artist Swaggy P And Other Highlights
Think you’re a brick wall in the net? Prove it by stopping the dangle master, Swaggy P. He’ll demonstrate his fantastic stickhandling for players and fans to enjoy and perform trick shots against 10 lucky goalies as part of a unique “Stop Swaggy P” one-on-one contest. The event will include food, music, raffles, a program guide, event merchandise, special guests, a vendor exhibit area, and more.
“The Bay State Skills brings together the most talented high school players in Massachusetts for a fun, competitive event for participants and fans alike to enjoy. Earning awards like ‘fastest skater in the state’ is a unique opportunity and experience that players will cherish forever.”
– Dan Cote, Founder and President of Puck Prodigy LLC
How To Register
A maximum of 50 spots for each competition per category and division will be available. Considering that 170+ high schools in Massachusetts have hockey programs, spots are limited and will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis, so players and goalies should register early. Coaches, teammates, and others can nominate players who will be added to a waiting list and invited to participate if space is available.
Neutral Zone and MassNZ will also be advising on deserving MIAA players who should participate.
