
Danvers, MA – The St. John’s Prep Eagles came into the MIAA tournament riding high and continued their dominance in the first round with a 7-0, 63-shot performance on Wednesday afternoon over the Franklin Panthers.
The first period started out pretty even and Franklin had a few chances on an early power play but Eagles goalie Jesse Bernardinelli turned aside each shot on the power play to keep the game tied at 0-0. St John’s would take a 1-0 lead with 8:51 left in the period when Gavin Anderson put home a Brandon Ward rebound and the Eagles were off and running. The period would end 1-0 but only because Franklin goalie Alex Weber was terrific for the remainder of the frame. Shots: SJP 13, Franklin 5
The second period started out with SJP going on the power play 56 seconds in and although they didn’t score, they took control of the game. The Eagles scored to double the lead at 8:37 when Ward put home a snipe off a nice pass from Ryan Doherty …. The Prep would add a late goal with 44 seconds left in period when Christian Coleman put home a pass from Anthony Petruccelli and Brennan Waters making it 3-0 St John’s at end of 2. Shots for SJP: 2nd period 20, two period total 33. Shots for Franklin: 3, two period total 8.
The third period was all St John’s Prep as they scored on a 5-on-3 at 9:22 Ward added his second of the night from Andrew McCauley and Anderson. Then just 30 seconds later, the Eagles made it 5-0 when Sefton Paradis scored with assists from Coleman and JR Goldstein. They would add another goal at 6:31 when Ryan Finkle tallied from Logan Daigle and Goldstein. The Prep would add a 7th goal when Petruccelli danced through the slot and made a nice move, scoring from Owen Hanson and Coleman. SJP 3rd period shots: 29, game total of 62. Franklin 3rd period shots 1, game total of 9.
