Adrian Zubak | HC Banska Bystrica | Slovakia U20 | R | D | 6’0″ | 176 | Brezno | 2002 | 2020-2021: C |
Neutral Zone NHL’s Ian Moran’s comments, February 2021: Zubak is a smart defender who relies on anticipating puck and player movement so he’s able to arrive at his spots early. There’s rarely any scrambling. He looks composed and confident while he shuts down line rushes or cycling. Offensively Zubak moves the puck quickly and rarely looks surprised when the puck is on his stick. He’s not a dangler or a really an offensive threat, but his passing is hard and accurate. He’s probably a long shot shot to be drafted, but he is a player we could see on Slovakian National Teams for years to come.
Neutral Zone’s Ed Besinger, June 2021: Adrian is a Slovakian right-shot defender that stands 6’0’’ and 185 pounds. Played this past season for HC Banska Bystrica in the Slovak U20 League. Registered one goal and eight penalty minutes in four games for HC Banska. He plays a stay-at-home shut down style. He plays a quiet game defensively and doesn’t run around his own zone. Positional and direct, he cuts down space well and uses his stick to take away passing lanes. He makes quick decisions with the puck on his stick. Quickly, snaps passes to the open man. He is aggressive at the offensive blue line and pinches to keep pucks in the zone. He isn’t quick or fast but uses his body well and anticipates well. He plays physical and is tough to play against in his own zone. He leans on forwards and wins board battles in the corners. He does a lot of little things in his own zone to help his team. He blocks shots and gets in the way of pucks. Solid defensively and will need to improve his offensive upside and puck skills.
