Antonin Pufr

Antonin Pufr (D, R, 6’3″, 194, Bili Tygri Liberec U20, 07/25/2008) Antonin Pufr is a 6’3′, 194-pound right-shot defenseman who possesses NHL-average size and a steady, low-risk profile, but whose overall impact and ceiling project more as a depth, defensive option rather than a clear NHL contributor. In 44 U20 Czech games (2-14-16, 20 PIMs), his production is modest as he plays a secondary puck-moving role rather than a play-driving presence. He plays a structured game built around positioning and support rather than creativity. His size is an asset, and he uses it effectively to defend his space and close plays, but he is not overly physical or dominant in engagements. I feel he is more of a contain-and-clear type defender than one who dictates play. He shows adequate puck moving ability and can make a clean first pass, but he does not consistently create or advance plays under pressure, and his offensive instincts are limited. At the international level, his impact has been minimal and he has not separated himself among peers. The positives are his frame, composure, and willingness to play within structure, but the concerns center on a lack of dynamic skating, limited offensive upside, and an overall game that is more reactive in nature. Without a standout trait, whether it be high-end puck movement, physical dominance, or elite defensive disruption, his projection becomes difficult at the NHL level. Overall, Pufr has a foundation that could translate to pro hockey in a depth role, but I do not project him to become an NHL player within a 5 year development window and would view him as a later-round consideration rather than a priority draft target.
