Beanpot NCAA:  Harvard (1) @ Boston College (5)

Played on Feb 2, 2026

NCAA D-1 Tournaments/Exhibition

Game Played in TD Banknorth Garden

Scout: Russ Bitely

General Game Notes: Boston College controlled the game from start to finish, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never letting Harvard back into it. The Eagles’ depth and pace overwhelmed the Crimson, who managed just a single goal in the second frame. With a steady 5-1 final, BC improved to 15-8-1 while Harvard fell to 12-9-1.

Comments: Hemming is a big, rangy winger who showed knack around the net and can drive play with pace, and he’s got the hands to make tough plays in motion. He leans on defenders, wins battles, and has a pro-level release that shows up from range. His draft year’s been a bit chaotic with the midseason move to Boston College, but the raw ingredients point toward a hard-nosed, willing to show some physicality, reliable middle-six power winger. The one aspect that needs improvement is his skating and acceleration. He lacks quickness and separation speed, though he showed the ability to power his way to position. He created the 2nd goal in the 1st period, as a give-and-go initiated in the neutral zone with #10 Hagens with Hemming receiving the puck back at the offensive blue line at the wall, as the big Finnish product chipped the puck around the defender while maneuvering his body on the outside back to the puck, then firing a shot on goal creating the rebound tally for #10 Hagens who followed in on the play at the net. On the 3rd BC goal, Hemming did a nice job corralling the puck off a #10 Hagens’ dish entering the offensive zone, and in one motion, got around the defender and slid back to his linemate’s back door at the post for the goal. He also found the open ice in the 3rd period, blasting a 1-timer from the circle, yet the Harvard goalie #31 Charette made a beauty kick save at the last second. Right now, Hemming is a playmaker, not a pure finisher. Although he is also an August ’08-birthdate with great character qualities, there’s plenty of development time for the true freshman. Hemming looks to be a prospect who is not even close to hitting his pinnacle; he will be attractive for NHL teams.

Comments: Charette made several key stops and managed the game well, kicking rebounds into safe areas most of the night. His base can get a little wide, but he battles and moves efficiently for a bigger goalie. He showed real calm in the crease, tracking pucks right into his chest and reading plays with maturity. While he might want the 1st goal against back off #5 Fortescue’s stick early in the game, Charette battled all night to keep the Crimson in the game, especially in the 2nd period when BC peppered 21 shots on goal. He made several saves in tight and robbed #9 Hemming in the 3rd period off a one-timer, as Charette kicked his leg pad out at the last second to make the save. Charette is just in his 2nd season at Harvard, so he will have additional time develop his game before attracting some free agency interest.
