Ben West

CCHL: Navan vs Smith Falls, February 18, 2022: West came in as relief in the second period and stopped 24 of 25 shots as he shut the door and was difficult to beat. You can tell when West came in the game, his guys seemed to exhale and settle down having confidence with him behind them. He is quick from post to post and limits all rebounds, controlling them to the corners and safe areas. West made a few saves using his flexibility that he should not have made but was able to make big saves on back door passes and redirections. Ben is a confident goaltender that was dominant in his crease for the two periods he played in. GRADE: B+

CCHL/OJHL – Cottage Cup Nevan Grads vs Cobourg Cougars, September 18, 2021: Ben plays a traditional butterfly style. Both paddles and gloves are sound; movement side to side, forward and backward is good. He gets back behind the net on shoot in’s well and puck handling is better than average (he got an assist in this game). He only allowed one goal on a well-placed low shot to stick side above the pad below the blocker; a butterfly goalie’s nightmare. Ben should have long-term goals to work with a purpose in mind of getting stronger while maintaining his flexibility and quickness. If he can do this, I believe he will move to the next stage of development i.e. college or professionally.

CCHL/OJHL – Cottage Cup, Navan vs North York, September 2021: )was the first star in this game as he only let one get by him in the game which of course by now you have figured out are two halves of twenty-minute periods makeup games with stop time. Therefore, if the game was of regular length, the projected shot total would have been 45. Ben was busy.

CCHL/OJHL – Cottage Cup, North York vs Navan, September 2021: Ben West was the best player on Navan and he deservedly was selected as the star of the game for Navan because unlike most of his teammates was properly prepared to play. He alone couldn’t save the day.
