Brayden Peters

Brayden Peters (4 Star Amateur Rating, NHL Grade — C) Goalie

Neutral Zone NHL’s Ian Moran, May 2020: He came into the season after dominating in midget hockey and it was obvious to see why. Brayden is ultra quick laterally and has tremendous reflexes. He battles for his ice at the top of the crease and it looks like his defenders know that he’ll limit second opportunities by covering rebounds quickly or by deflecting the initial shot into the corners. One of the things that I like as a former defenseman and coach is his ability to get a whistle and settle things down when Calgary gets running around in their end. To me he shows great game awareness and knows when his guys are gassed. It’s a little thing that can prevent scoring opportunities, penalties and ultimately goals against. I think there are times when Brayden can be a little too hard on himself, but in the end I think he’s a competitive gamer who wants to do well.

Neutral Zone NHL’s Donald Godreau, May 2020: Peters is an athletic goalie. We particularly like the way he attacks shots with his limbs and shows strong rebound control with a solid catching hand and a knack for deflecting rebounds out of dangerous scoring areas. We like his solid foot work, he has strong pushes and can cover a lot of ice in a short span. We do find that Peters can be inconsistent from game to game, and we usually see his struggle in his body language. On good nights he looks big, he is aggressive, and patient, on bad nights he tends to try to anticipate a little more, and a big indicator is that he’ll make a lot of saves that are just 80% to 90% saves, where pucks squeak through limbs, pads, and he will struggle to have a good feel for the puck. He can struggle to track the puck through traffic, and can lose his angles regularly. Against the rush, he challenges well and it’s where he looks the most confident. Peters is a battler. He works hard, he is competitive. He cares and he never gives up on a shot or scoring chance. Grade: C
