QMJHL: Cape Breton vs Quebec, January 14, 2023: Squires totaled 16:37 in ice time including 2:43 while on the power play and 1:58 while shorthanded. Offensively he was positioned as the left flank one-time option on the Eagles’ 5on3 power play unit and conversely was on his strong side right wall while playing 5on4. He showed an easy first touch and fired accurate passes with authority. An example of this occurred on his primary assist while on the 5on3 where he handled a bullet royal road with ease and then showing deception without needing to stickhandle fired a beautiful royal road pass to the backdoor. Squires got smoked on his second primary assist after he attacked the middle lane and gave a spinning pass back to his right. We like his fearlessness while attacking the middle, but he left himself in a vary vulnerable position after the pass. He was also involved in a post game scrum where he threw a few gloved punches and looked as if he was ready for a bit more. He finished the game -1 with 2 primary assists, 2 shots, 3 PP attempted shots, 1 grade “A” opportunity, 10 PIMs, 3/5 on face-offs, 2 hits, received 2 hard hits, 8 giveaways, 2 takeaways and he won 45% of his 11 puck battles.

QMJHL: Cape Breton vs Gatineau, December 8, 2022: Squires in an average sized right wing who played on Cape Breton’s top unit. In this game he totaled 15:26 in ice time including 1:51 while on the power play and 0:14 while shorthanded. He had four grade “A” scoring opportunities and finished with 1 goal which came on a quick stick one-timer in the slot. On line rushes he showed the awareness to change pace as the puck carrier and to find the open ice for scoring opportunities when he was not. His release was quick showing the ability to shoot while his feet were moving and to fire bullets through screens. He had 11 giveaways, 5 takeaways and won 22% of his 9 puck battles.

QMJHL: Cape Breton vs Charlottetown, December 3, 2022: Squires is an above average skater that has strong offensive instincts with good anticipation. His play around the puck really stood out and he has quick hands and a quick release to get shots directed at the with speed and accuracy; he is good with the puck in tight spaces and plays within the dots allowing better shooting angles. He played on the PP and was effective in front of the oppositions net causing traffic and scoring opportunities. He showed the ability to beat players on the rush through the neutral zone and within the offensive blueline using fakes and deception to gain more space. In the defensive zone he appeared in good positions to support the defensive structure on be in a good position for breakouts while distributing the puck well when needed. Would like to see Cam get stronger allowing him to win more puck battles in the corners as when he has the puck he can be dangerous Grade: B+

U15: Bishop Kearney Players Evaluated, September 29, 2020: Cam was on the score sheet quite a bit in CT. He was last season’s MVP of the PEI Bantam League. His sense on the ice was superb and although he is small that mattered not. Cam has soft hands and a slippery stick. He jumped to open ice and attacked the net. He knew how to create attention and dish the puck to the open man. He made passes that gave his teammates a chance to make plays as Cam sees the play beyond the play. He was tricky and dangerous below the dots and in transition. He can score as well and looked to be a high-end prospect who QMJHL teams will follow closely this season. High ceiling player. Grade: A

U14: Monctonian AAA Challenge, November 30, 2018: Forward who has a nose for the net and great offensive vision. Can find open teammates through traffic and slows the game down when he has control of the puck. Scored the tournament winning goal and finished the tournament with 11 points in 6 games, that included 5 goals. Was always an offensive threat when he was on the ice. Grade: A
