Neutral Zone Anthony Walsh’s comments, June 2021: Legault is a big defenseman who does his best work defending in his own zone. The Boston University commit does an excellent job of fronting opponents in front of his own net, knocking down pucks and then starting the breakout. He battles hard in front of his own net and uses his size to establish good positioning. At times he can get caught focusing too much on trying to knock down pucks, and has a tendency to lose sticks in front. However his size and reach help him recover well. Legault constantly uses his reach to deflect shots into the netting and disrupt passes through his area. This is especially noticeable on the rush. While he does need to work on his gap control, he is able to make up for soft gaps at this level by utilizing his reach and closing down space with an extended stick. Offensively, he does a good job of getting up in the play and moving the puck to help his team enter the offensive zone. Legault doesn’t have the best skates, so he isn’t able to create with speed, but he does have good vision and can make plays with his feet moving. His ability to enter the offensive zone cleanly with the puck helped his team create offense. Overall, Legault has good size and good vision with the puck, but will need to improve his footspeed and consistency.
