Djibril Toure | Sudbury Wolves | OHL | R | D | 6’7″ | 203 | Dorval, QC | 2003 | 2022-2023: B- |
Ian Moran says: There is a lot to like about Toure and his future. He is very athletic with a fluid stride and deep knee skating posture. There are times while defending that he can lean too far forward and get his shoulders way out over his toes, but I think with more off-ice training he will improve on that. Defensively he has a chance to be a minutes monster. He’s a project, but there are not that many 6’7″ defenders with his skating base and ability to pivot without crossing over one thousand times. After contact he can get trapped on the wrong side of the puck, but again as he gets more reps against higher level competition I feel this will come to an end. Offensively all he’s going to have to do is work to be an outlet or screen for his partner and look to his left on regroups. He’s started to activate a lot more in Sudbury and I kind of like it, but realistically his role in professional hockey will be to be a total DB to play against against shut down the other team’s offensive guys and PP. Toure will be very interesting to watch over the next few months and years.
CCHL: Hawkesbury vs Cornwall, February 10, 2002: Toure is a massive right shot defender with a deep knee skating base and fluid stride. Offensively there were times when he got himself in trouble by trying to do too much, but in all honesty as scout we enjoyed seeing his athleticism and lateral movement. He had two primary assist with one coming on a neutral zone regroup where he calmly handled a DtoD pass in his feet before finding the weakside forward on a cross ice pass. His second assist had to make the college coaches drool as he activated during a high cycle to crash the dot lane and then made a serious wide dribble where the puck had to have moved 12′ before he took a backhand shot on net. College coaches should be all over him as he is only going to improve and you would have him on campus for four years.
CCHL: Carleton Place vs Renfrew, November 19, 2021: Toure is a incredibly lanky right shot defenseman who looks to be over 6’5″ and under 180lbs. He was immediately noticeable as his skating posture is much more fluid than we expected, especially while retrieving dump-ins and working to be an outlet for his partner in transition. The Quebec native went undrafted in the QMJHL draft and looks like an NCAA prospect who will develop into a shut down defender after a few years of off-ice training.
U18: Ligue de development du hockey M18 AAA du Quebec, Lac St, Louis vs Chateauguay, October 25, 2019: Toure is a big right shot defender who is still growing into himself. There were times when he looked coordinated and other times when his legs straightened making him look unorthodox. He was used as a penalty killer and had 4 minutes in penalties.
