Game Evaluation: Baie-Comeau Drakkar NHL Prospects (1/12/20)

On Sunday January 12th we saw Baie-Comeau travel to Saint John to take on the Sea Dogs. Here are the Prospects who caught our eye

Nathan LeGare (4 Star Amateur Rating, NHL Grade — B, 2019 round 3 #74 overall by Pittsburgh Penguins) Forward

Game Grade: B-, The Baie-Comeau forward wears the “C” for the Drakkar, and his play shows why. LeGare gives a full effort, playing a hard-nosed and heavy game. Used in all strength situations, the right-shot forward can kill penalties and be useful around the net on the PP. He made his presence known in the offensive zone by finishing checks and getting to the net every chance he got–he drove the net on zone entries, and planted himself around the net for rebound opportunities. He showed emotion which is all well and good, but crossed the line in frustration from the bench late in the game–drawing an unsportsmanlike call with seconds remaining.

Raivis Kristians Ansons (4 Star Amateur Rating, NHL Grade — B-) Forward

Game Grade: B+, Ansons is a smooth skating winger with the ability to create scoring chances by getting to quality areas offensively. His skating stride is impressive and he seems to effortlessly beat opposing defenders. The Latvian lacked finish in this game, unable to convert on any of his looks. Liked his ability to get to the net and to drive play for his line. The Drakkar forward is ranked 147th for North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

Julien Hebert (4 Star Amateur Rating, 2021 NHL Grade — C+) Forward

Game Grade: C+, The left-shot forward, born in July of 2003, was playing in only his 7th QMJHL game overall and 4th for the Drakkar following a trade from Moncton. He impressed in some ways here versus the Sea Dogs, particularly with his speed and offensive mindset. Hébert was always looking to go–trying to jump the play and get up the ice. As a center this can come back to bite you, as it did on the 1st goal against where he got caught trying to jump a pass and take off up the ice, resulting in a chance for Saint John. The lanky skater was able to carry pucks through the neutral zone, and managed one quality scoring chance as well as a miss over the net. The young skater has some promising qualities.
