Game Evaluation: Rouyn-Noranda Huskies NHL Prospects (1/7/2020)

Game Evaluation Rouyn-Noranda Huskies versus Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (1/7/2020) NHL Prospects

Alex Beaucage (4.25 Star Amateur Rating, NHL Grade — B, 2019 Round 3 #78 Colorado Avalanche) Forward

Beaucage is a talented offensive player with good size and play making instincts. Credited with 5 shots and also had a few attempts on the PP blocked or miss the net. He was a possession monster, seemed to always have the puck on his stick and helped teammates create chances. His skating seemed fine when he wanted to go, though he looked reluctant to floor it. He threw a hit on the fore-check, and skated for zone exits and entries with relative ease. A talented player, the Colorado 3rd rounder from last June has 30 goals this year in 39 games played. He finished a minus three in this one. Game Grade: B-

Adrian Valigura (4 Star Amateur Rating, NHL Grade — C+) Forward

Valigura is a lanky skater with good size, listed at 6’2. The 2001 born Slovakian started the rally for the Huskies, scoring on a nice shot after receiving a cross ice pass. The goal followed one of his line’s better possession shifts. The left shot forward mainly plays his off wing, and did OK skating pucks out of his own end for exits. He managed a blocked shot, and got his big frame to the net for a screen chance. The young forward was on the ice late for the final goal against. Game Grade: C+

Jacob Squires (3.75 Star Amateur Rating, 2021 NHL Grade — C) Defense

Squires is a big young D-man. The 2003 born skater saw limited ice time, and when he was out there the puck seemed to get behind him for dangerous chances against on multiple occasions. He has a good reach, and when he started in the offensive zone his team had a few good shifts–including the shift where he gained a secondary assist and his +1. The right shot defenseman is not eligible until June 2021 and has a long way to go developmentally, particularly his skating and puck movement. Game Grade: C

It’s worth noting that an earlier report from the Monctonian AAA Challenge 2018 noted that Jacob;

Jacob Squires #15 (D, R, 6’0, 170lbs, Charlottetown Pride, 2003) -His team’s best defenseman in game viewed. Smooth stride, good balance, makes smart decisions with the puck and has some size as well. Passes in transition are hard and on the tape. When he has control of the puck his head is up and sees the ice very well. On the attack he puts the puck on net looking for a tip regularly. Finished with 4 points in 3 games in the tournament and drove his teams attack. GRADE: B+
