On February 25th a Neutral Zone scout watched the Gatineau Olympiques travel to Chicoutimi for a high scoring mid-week game that featured 11 goals. Here are the Gatinueau prospects that stood out.
Remi Poirier (3.75 Star Amateur Rating, NHL Grade — C) Goalie
Game Grade: B-, Gatineau gave up 7 goals here, but it could have been 15 if not for Poirier. Chicoutimi is a talented offensive squad and they were able to carve the Gatineau defense with relative ease. Poirier made several high quality saves on dangerous opportunities, including at least 3 breakaway chances. He was good in scramble situations, making many saves on second and third opportunities. The Olympiques surrendered 2 PP goals against on 7 opportunities, and Poirier was the best killer. Hard to say he had a good day when he gave up 7 goals, but I liked his effort here. The 24th ranked North American Goalie by NHL Central Scouting may or may not get selected in June, but we liked his battle level and his mental toughness in this coach’s nightmare.
Manix Landry (4 Star Amateur Rating, 2021 NHL Grade — C+) Forward
Game Grade: B, Landry is a Utah-born center playing for Gatineau. The late 2002-born skater continued his offensive contributions this season here versus Chicoutimi–putting up 1 goal and 1 assist. His goal came on a nice rush play where he finished into a wide open net and his assist came on the PP after he won an offensive zone face-off. His quickness and willingness to battle stuck out, interested to see his development into next season.
Zachary Dean (4.5 Star Amateur Rating, 2021 NHL Grade — B) Forward
Game Grade: B, Dean is a young forward playing a big role for the Olympiques. His speed and skating ability stuck out here where he was able to carry pucks from his own end into the offensive zone throughout the game. His passing decisions were solid on those entries, showcasing good hands and play making ability. He finished with two assists here. Dean is 2003-born and eligible for the Draft in 2021.
