Gibson Homer | Chicago Steel | USHL | L | G | 6’6″ | 209 | Uncomm. | Grand Rapids, MI | 2003 | 2021-2022: C |
Neutral Zone NHL’s Ian Moran’s comments, October 2021: He obviously has NHL size so Homer is going to get extra looks. To me he looks to be in more in control of his body this year. He’s showing nice awareness and anticipation when reading potential one-timers which allows him to stay in the paint. In the games I’ve seen I really like how he’s working with his defensive core to generate clean breakouts. He’s leaving the pucks in areas where his defensemen can look over their shoulders to read the forecheck and he’s doing it with confidence. Chicago is a team that will have NHL scouts watchin them closely all year and Homer will be one of the reasons why.
USHL: Goalie Report 10/8-10/9, October 12, 2021: Homer had a strong game this weekend earning the win allowing 2 goals on 23 shots. He has great size in net and plays very big in his stance as well. It was an impressive game to watch, despite fewer shots he faced many high quality chances and made big saves in key moments for his team. He excelled with rebound control and prevented many secondary chances by controlling shots. It was an impressive game for Homer who will look to continue building on his start to the season. Grade: A-
USHL: NTDP U18 vs Youngstown, January 2021: Homer is a big frame and appears to be very composed. There were some instances in the game where he was scrambling a bit, but he moves well and is quick to integrate into his posts and seal the ice. When seeing pucks, he had great rebound control, eating up everything that came towards him, and with traffic, he does a good job using his height to find shooting lanes and his width to maximize coverage. Homer was solid in this game and made a few great saves on some key scoring chances throughout the game, including a great breakaway save on Funk in the second period. Grade: B+
USHL Goalie Report 12/18-12/19, December 22, 2020: Homer had a good weekend picking up the win in his only start, and coming in relief the next night. He is a big goalie that takes up a lot of net and showed good poise in Friday’s game. It was impressive to see his ability to move quickly and in control, also he was able to keep his shoulders and hips square to the puck when following passes. He showed he has some good athletic ability as well making a huge backdoor save on a quick play in tight. The best part of his game this weekend was his compete level where he found ways to make 2-3 saves when needed during times his team was hemmed in their zone. It is a solid game for Homer to build on as he keeps developing this season. Grade: B+
NAHL: NTDP U18 vs. St. Cloud, October 5, 2020: Homer is a big goalie that has a lot of potential. He moves fast for his size and has decent athleticism as well. His greatest strength are in tight plays around the crease where he is able to cover the net with his size and ability to move in control. He struggled on certain bad angle shots and was caught at times opening up and creating holes for shooters to score. Homer faced a more determined team Saturday night and was required to make some big saves to help his team win. With his size and potential it will be fun to see how Homer improves as the year goes on. Grade: B
MAHA Festival 2003s, July 8, 2018: Gibson is a big goalie who likes to come out and challenge the shooters. He is quick side to side for a big goalie and he covers a lot of the net. We see his game improving over the last year and we see plenty of potential.
Michigan Bantam Fest (2003s), July 2017: Gibson is a bigger young goalie who challenges the shooters and takes away the shooting angles. He plays with plenty of confidence. He had a decent week at camp by letting in 3 goals in the 3 games.
