Neutral Zone was in attendance for the Bulldogs hosting of the veteran Flint Fire Birds on Saturday the 8th. 7-3 final for the Flint in this game. Flint started flat in this game, down 3-1 but scored 6 unanswered to win the game. The Firebirds have a deep all round veteran team with very few draft eligible’s in the line-up, but their two draft eligible forwards both contributed in the game. Here are the draft eligible Bulldogs and their impact on the game.
Hamilton Bulldogs Draft Eligible
2 Michael Renwick (played, was not a factor)
9 Logan Morrison (was a factor, see report)
14 George Diaco (played, was not a factor) (Free Agent Watch)
19 Jan Mysak (was a factor, see report)
42 Cameron Supryka (was a factor, see report)
33 Marco Costantini (did not play)
Jan Mysak (4.5 Star Amateur Rating, NHL Grade — A) Forward
Mysak was Hamilton’s first round pick in the 2019 OHL import draft. He is a recent addition to the Hamilton line-up joining the team in January. A dynamic skating forward with elite foot speed he is contributing at a point per game clip early in his OHL career. Mysak is an explosive player with a quick first step and has the ability to beat defenders through the neutral zone. He is dangerous on the rush and at times could only be stopped by being hauled down. Mysak was dangerous in the first period and had a number of positive shifts in the offensive zone. He has good size and a sturdy base on the cycle. Mysak is finding his way on a new roster with new teammates. Our viewing was his tenth OHL game and Mysak already had 8 goals. A dynamic player with great offensive tools, he will be interesting to watch as he gains experience in the OHL. Game Grade: B+
Logan Morrison (4 Star Amateur Prospect, NHL Grade — C) Forward
Early in this game the line of Arthur Kaliyev, Jan Mysak and Morrison were excellent and generated offense consistently. Their high pace attack and quick transition helped the Bulldogs to a 3-1 first period lead. Morrison moved pucks well to his wingers in transition and directed the offense well finding his wingers through the neutral zone. He is a nifty right shot forward with a high offensive IQ and strong power play presence. Morrison excels with the extra man where most of the Hamilton power play runs through his hands. As the season progresses we are seeing improvements in Morrison’s pace and ability to close on opposition attackers in all zones of the ice, but in the second half of this game was a struggle as the game evolved and Flint found their forecheck. Morrison and the Bulldogs top line struggled under the forecheck. Game Grade: C+
Cameron Supryka (3.75 Star Amateur Rating, NHL Grade — C) Defense
Supryka is a strong skating left shot defender who plays a tidy game managing pucks in transition. He is showing increased development in his confidence with the puck and more of a willingness to carry pucks forward on the rush. Supryka’s first period rush was key to creating space on the Bulldogs second goal. He stepped up in transition and broke down the wing with pace to create space for an open Arthur Kaliyev. Defensively, Supryka managed the gap well and forced opposition forwards to dump pucks in. Supryka has enough pace, mobility and confidence to gap up and make plays before zone entry. He has good size and a high compete in his zone and is willing to engage physically in his own end to clear the front of the net. Game Grade: C+
