Neutral Zone’s Ian Moran, February 25, 2023: With a stat line of a 0.947 save percentage, a 1.31 goals against average and a record of 24 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie he is quite frankly he is a man amongst in high school hockey. Slukynsky’s playing style is aggressive. He is not afraid to challenge players out beyond the top of his crease and although we have seen him get trapped out past his strong side post, he routinely shows the skating ability, anticipation and quick reflexes to make a very difficult save look easy and expected. He shows a powerful inside edge thrust when going post to post and he has above average rebound control. Slukynsky is also an asset in transition as he handle the puck coolly and seems to be incredibly confident in his passing abilities.
U18 Hlinka-Gretzky Tournament: Team USA vs Czechia, August 8, 2022: Slukynsky made 16 saves on 18 shots for a game save percentage of 0.89%. Czechia had ten scoring area saves and he stopped 80% of them. Both goals against came on broken plays from neutral zone transition, but he played each situation differently. The first goal came off a quick 3on2 with a back-checker. The puck bounced off a back-checker’s foot to the trailer and Slukynsky was deep in his net gave the shooter multiple choices to pick. On the second goal his right defender stepped on a neutral zone pass, but failed to get a stick on it which resulted in a quick 3on1 from the defensive blueline in. Slukynsky played his left defenseman to take the pass away and therefore he was well outside of his crease and strong side post. His defenseman slid and the Czechia forward made a royal road pass for an easy back door tap-in. When Slukynsky came out to play the puck he calmly showed the awareness to to leave the puck on his defenseman’s forehand which allowed for quicker / cleaner breakouts.
U15: USA Hockey Nationals, May 18, 2021: Slukynsky is a tall, athletic goalie from Warroad HS who showed well in limited action as an ‘05. He’s got good footwork, he’s fluid in and out of the crease, he understands angling and body position and has a confident glove to catch pucks and limit rebounds. He showed quick reflexes and ability to get up and down instantly and was smart about his reads and stayed in position even during high traffic situations. He’s balanced, he maintains his position even with opponents barreling down on him and he holds the post to eliminate wrap around attempts or shot side high which a lot of players are looking to sneak one in on. He didn’t have a great statistical performance here as he was left out to dry a lot as the Blue Ox were outscored 10-2 through their first 2 games. Someone to keep an eye on next season as he’ll take over the starting role for a talented Warroad team. Grade: B-
