Hoyt StanleyVictoria GrizzliesBCHLRD6’2″196Cornell | 2024West Vancouver, BC20052022-2023: C+

BCHL: Nanaimo Clippers vs Victoria Grizzlies, January 7, 2023: Big right-shot defenseman who is a lot of fun to watch. Very efficient skater as he corrals pucks in his own end and can go coast-to-coast with the intention to get pucks to the net himself or find his teammates streaking into the offensive zone. As a bigger player, he owns a longer reach which in turn allows him to control pucks on the offensive blue line without being checked. Additionally, he owns good patience which allows him to find shooting lanes, pushing the puck away from his body and getting sifters on the net. Doesn’t panic under pressure regardless of what zone he is in. Makes quick hard passes out of his own zone resulting in clean breakouts and more offensive zone time for himself and his teammates. Grade: A-

BCHL: Victoria vs Cowichan, December 31, 2022: Stanley totaled 19:59 in ice time including 4:30 while on the power play and 0:37 while shorthanded. He earned a secondary power play assist. On the goal he showed real athleticism and awareness when he sprinted to his left to keep a hard wrap in to continue power play offensive zone time. He was all over the puck as he attempted 11 total shots with 7 hitting the net and 4 of those creating rebound opportunities. On the night he finished even with 1 assist, 5 total PP shots, 0 hits, had 1 shot blocked, 7 giveaways, 5 takeaways and he won 86% of his 7 puck battles.

BCHL: Victoria vs Chilliwack, December 10, 2022: Stanley totaled 21:04 in ice time including 2:54 while on the power play. He did not play while shorthanded. He was -1 on a goal that came with 1:48 left in the third period. On the goal Stanley failed to read that Chilliwack had a forward behind him after the puck had gone to the point. He began to puck watch and drifted too high which lead to the goal scorer being left all alone in front with more time and space than he knew what to do with. He had three hard shots that all led to rebounds, one of which was a one-timer that seemed to catch the goaltender off guard by how quickly it got up on him. He finished the game -1 with zero points, 3 shots, 1 grade “A”, 0 hits, 4 giveaways, 4 takeaways and he won 25% of his puck battles.

BCHL: Victoria vs Coquitlam, February 26, 2022: Stanley totaled 13:18 in ice time. He did not play on either special team unit. Stanley is a good sized right shot 2005 defender who played real even strength minutes for Victoria. Offensively he went with his first read and did not over complicate things. Mid-way through the second he showed nice lateral mobility as a puck carrier when he did a hard right shoulder fake that made the opposing left wing go sliding by him into the wall. After the move he attacked the middle of the ice and fired a rocket snapshot that gave the goalie could not handle. The rebound popped into the high slot leading directly to Victoria’s second goal of the game. Although he did not receive an assist on the play he was the reason the goal was scored. Defensively he disguised his poke check and showed a good power base when pinning opposing forwards to the walls. He did earn a secondary assist after breaking up a play in front of his net and one touching a quick outlet pass to his center. He finished the game even with 2 shots, 1 hit, received 1 hard hit, 1 giveaway, 3 takeaways and he won 3 of his 5 puck battles.

CSSHL: Bantam Championship, March 21, 2020: Hoyt is a very good very active defenseman capable at both ends of the rink. A smooth skater with good mobility whether defending the rush or carrying a puck out of his zone and out of danger. He moves the puck quickly and with purpose then quickly follows his pass following up a rush and contributing when he can. On the blue line he is constantly looking for opportunities to dart in and present as a pass option. He quarterbacks his squad’s power play and when puck on stick he can carry across blue line and shift away from defenders, finding seams to pass or shoot. Grade A-
