Jake Uberti – The Process

Jake Uberti (4 Star Amateur Rating, NHL Grade — Free Agent) Forward

Neutral Zone NHL: Right now Jake has the size to be a pro, but mentally he is still growing into himself and learning who he is as a player. In minor midget we viewed him as a power forward with the potential to have a mean streak and impact games in multiple ways. We saw flashes of his power and ability to dominate, but in all honesty we were hoping to see more of it this year because when he puts his shoulder down he is a force. We feel as Jake matures he will feel more confident in his game and in turn become a more consistent player. On the power play Jake will stand in front of the net and is more than willing to fight for his ice and battle. His strength allows him to take a beating and we feel this is when Jake is at his best. We’ve seen him score on tip ins and be a valuable net front presence, but we would like to see him do this during even strength situations as well. In all honesty, when Jake realizes that physically he can dominate opponents in just about every game situation he will take off as a player and NHL prospect because he has a basic pro skill set and is as strong as a bull.

OHL Gold Cup, May 2018: Jake was a steal in the OHL Draft in the 4th round if Uberti continues to develop and play at the level he showed in this tournament.  Uberti continued to impress as a big skating power centerman who plays a 200 foot game. He does many things well for a big center and has continued to use his pace as a competitive advantage. Uberti was the leading point producer this weekend with 9 pts in 4 games and showed an improved scoring touch over viewings we watched during the season. Playing on a line with Dylan Robinson and Sebastian Bulovs, Uberti created space with his pace through the neutral zone and made the line very difficult to contain.

Marlies Holiday Classic, March 2018: Uberti continues to impress as a big skating power centerman.  He does many things well for a big center and has continued to use his pace as a competitive advantage.  We would like to see some additional scoring touch from Uberti.  His solid 200 foot game and attention to detail in his end will ensure he gets ample opportunity to play in key situations.  Uberti was excellent in the Reps run to the semis here this weekend.

OHL Draft December Rankings: Jake was the 4th highest ranked right wing and has a Neutral Zone star rating of 4.

GTHL 2017 Prospects All-Star Game: He does many things well for a big center. Showed well in defensive zone support in this game but did not use his speed to create space the way we have seen in regular season viewings. Quiet offensive night for him, as he was not able to generate the pace through the neutral zone that we normally see.

OHL Draft October Rankings: Jake was ranked #21 and had a Neutral Zone star rating of 4.25.

Toronto Titans, November 2017: Uberti is a tall center with smooth, slick stickhandling skills. He shields the puck well, has the skill to find his teammates on the rush and drives the net with a purpose. He carries the puck with speed, shows a high compete level in all three zones and creates offense both on the rush and in zone. He’s got some power and finesse to his game and uses his long reach and impressive skating ability to separate from opponents and make plays. He goes into the corners without hesitation and, more often then not, comes out with the puck on his stick.

Wendy Dufton, October 2017: Uberti continues to impress.  He does many things well for a big center. He can lean on you in corner battles and come away with the puck and make skilled plays. Good skater may need a bit more intensity – he could win more pucks with his size, speed, and reach.  Offensively he handles the puck well on entries and finds the late man entering the zone.  He plays a good 200 foot game and works the boards well in the defensive zone and clears the zone with good passes.
