Jakub Seidl

Jakub Seidl (D, R, 6’0″, 186, Calgary Hitmen, 10/20/2007) Jakub Seidl is a 6’0′, 186-pound right-shot defenseman who projects as a reliable, defense-first player, but his limited offensive impact and lack of dynamic tools show a low NHL ceiling. In 61 WHL games (1-9-10, +9), Seidl’s production reflects his role. He is deployed primarily in defensive situations (1:25 SHT vs. just 0:12 PPT), and his game is built around structure, reads, and consistency rather than play-driving ability. His strengths remain aligned with prior Neutral Zone evaluations: he defends with good positioning, uses an active stick effectively, and shows strong anticipation, which is supported by his 61% puck battle win rate and willingness to block shots (0.83/game). He is efficient moving pucks (87% pass completion) and does not overextend offensively, but this also highlights a limitation as he lacks creativity and offensive upside (0.18 pre-shot passes/game, just 0.2 scoring chances/game), and he is not a transition driver or someone who can push transition pace. His skating is adequate and allows him to maintain gaps and manage defensive responsibilities, but it is not a separator for an undersized defenseman. Physically, he competes but does not impose himself consistently (0.48 hits/game), and his game leans more toward containment than disruption. While his decision-making is generally sound, his puck management under pressure can still improve (6 giveaways vs. 2.6 takeaways), particularly against quick moving F1 and hard heavy forechecks. Overall, Seidl has traits that translate to pro hockey in a depth, defensive role, but without a clear offensive dimension or a standout physical or skating tool, I do not project him to become an NHL player within a 5 year window. I feel he profiles more as a dependable, low-risk defenseman who could play professionally but is not a priority NHL draft target.
