Jonas Lagerberg Hoen (RW, R, 6’2″, 177, Leksand, 10/24/2007) Jonas Lagerberg Hoen is a 6’2′, 177 lb right-shot winger who brings an intriguing blend of size, offensive instinct, and scoring efficiency, but remains a projection-based prospect given his limited sample and key areas for development. His production at the J20 level is highly impressive (9-7-16 in 9 games), supported by strong underlying analytical metrics; 7.0 shot attempts and 3.2 grade ‘A’ chances per game with an elite 26% conversion rate. He is a player who confidently shoots as the puck carrier or off the pass finishes with the ability to finish at a high level. His 1.0 pre-shot passes per game and 86% pass completion show that although he has a shoot first mind-set, he can read passing lanes and can generate scoring opportunities for his linemates. His offensive zone starts and usage on both special teams reflect trust and a developing two-way game that translates to being able to play in multiple roles, and his willingness to engage physically (33 PIMs in 9 games) clearly shows his bite as a player who is beginning to play with more of an edge, which I view as a real positive for his future in North America. However, I have clear concerns that temper his projection. His 47% puck battle win rate is underwhelming for his size. Although he is scoring, he is not yet consistently winning loose pucks in the low slot to capitalize even more often. He is still raw with his puck management and decision-making when under heavy pressure and that will be exposed at higher levels. While he shows flashes of physicality, his overall strength and consistency in using his frame are still developing, reinforcing that he is not yet ready to translate his game against North American pro competition. Ultimately, Lagerberg Hoen has the NHL tools of size, scoring ability, and offensive instincts, but his game is still immature and inconsistent. Overall, as he adds strength, improves puck management, and consistently wins 50/50 puck battles, he has a path to becoming a middle-six NHL winger with finishing ability, but without those improvements he risks plateauing as a streaky offensive player at lower levels, making him a mid-to-late second round draft candidate with upside tied to his physical development and how that translates to winning and capitalizing on the valuable ice.
