Poirier’s strengths lie in his exceptional skating ability, remarkable edge work, and elite speed, making him a dynamic offensive presence on the ice. He demonstrates a high level of hockey intelligence, displaying great awareness and processing skills, contributing effectively in both offensive and defensive situations. Despite his lack of height, Poirier isn’t hesitant to engage in physical battles in the dirty areas of the ice, showcasing his determination and willingness to create time and space for himself and his teammates.

Offensively, Poirier possesses a dynamic release, particularly lethal from the left dot on the power play, complemented by a hard and accurate shot. However, to carve out a career at the National League level, he will need to gain upper body strength and power to ensure success during 50/50 puck battles. His knack for finding scoring opportunities and elite-level finishing ability make him a potent offensive threat.

Poirier’s omission from the CHL Top Prospects Game raised questions, but his performance throughout the season, scoring 51 goals during the regular season and an additional 17 goals in 15 games during the playoffs, speaks volumes about his offensive capabilities. While some may view his absence as a setback, it may have served as motivation for Poirier to elevate his game further.

Neutral Zone recognizes Poirier’s offensive talent and goal scoring potential as elite but we remain cautious about his ability to transition to the professional level, due to his play away from the puck and we wonder how he will respond if he is not on the top power play. Poirier’s tenacious and gritty playing style suggests that he can compete effectively and thrive despite his size.

We have him graded with a “C+” 2024 NHL Draft grade but ultimately Poirier’s draft position will vary dramatically depending on a team’s needs and depth chart when it comes to goal scoring wingers. However, his impressive skills and determination make him a compelling prospect who is ranked 82nd among North American by Central Scouting for the draft. With the right opportunity and development, Poirier has the potential to succeed as a professional player.
