U18: Team Sweden vs Team Finland, April 26, 2022: At 6’1″ 190lbs the left Ohgren has a National League frame and he is not opposed to using it. Team Sweden’s captain showed excellent awareness on the forecheck differentiating between who was who and which role he was to fill. As an F1 he hunted pucks with speed and aggression looking to force poor decisions and turnovers. And when he had an opportunity to finish his check we liked the force he generated by rotating his torso while he drove his legs through the opponent. He was very effective along the goal line on Team Sweden’s top power play unit where his first touch was consistently soft. From this position he showed deception by receiving passes with his eyes up while looking every where but the direction of his next pass. Ohgren finished the game with 5 grade “A” scoring opportunities and they came in a variety of ways. While cycling he showed the awareness to find the holes in Finland’s defensive zone coverage and the foot work to open up for one-timers. On line rushes or quick two on ones we loved his willingness to attack the net through the dot lane making Finland’s defenders or goalie make the first move and responding appropriately. We also loved the strength and power he showed when he recognized the play was to attack the crease. In this situation Ohgren was no happy until he reached the far post. He has high end skill to go along with high levels of compete and leadership.
U18: Team Sweden vs Team USA at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, August 7, 2021: Physically Ohgren is an explosive player who looks like he has the mentality to play a brash power forward game. He was the net front presence on Team Sweden’s power play who showed soft hands and the ability to slide to the goal line while looking to make soft touch passing plays. He forechecked in straight lines intent on causing turnovers and when there was a loose puck Ohgren came away with it as was proved by his 6 take aways and 1 give away. His breakaway goal in the first was the epitome of his game. After back-checking through the middle to deter a scoring chance and finishing a hit along the mid-wall, Ohgren literally exploded out to his point forcing a turnover and continued accelerating through center ice while pulling away from Team USA’s defenders before ripping a snap shot for a beautiful goal. Ohgren contributed to all facets of Team Sweden’s win including 3:00 of power play time and 1:20 of short handed time in his 17:29 of total ice time. This was a very impactful game for Ohgren.
