Game Played in Lappeenranna Jaahalli I
General Game Notes: The game was played in Mikkeli, Finland, where the visiting team HIFK was the better side for most of the match and much more effective in scoring. Their strong overall performance was supported by great showing from the HIFK goalkeeper, who kept his team in the game whenever the home team Jukurit started to push and tried to come back.

Comments: Vili is a left-catching goaltender of average height who made 25 saves and showed a very good and consistent performance throughout the game. He was one of the main reasons why his team managed to take the win, and he supported his teammates in every important moment. He was calm and focused, controlled most pucks cleanly without rebounds, and when needed he kicked pucks to the corner or effectively handled rebounds. He tracked the puck well in difficult situations, both on long-distance shots and during scrambles in the crease, where he worked very well on the goal line. He especially held his team during penalty killing, where he skated well, covered his angles, and moved post to post very quickly. He was also active with his stick. A very strong performance overall.

Comments: Eelis is a left-handed defenseman of medium height who played on his team’s second pairing. He delivered a good defensive performance. A defensive defender and puck mover who plays a physical style with an active stick, he showed a very aggressive approach in the defensive zone and was difficult for opponents to play against. However, there were also positive things on the offensive side. He showed soft hands when, after entering the zone, he quickly moved into the slot area. From there he received a quick pass and found a better-positioned teammate, who scored with an accurate shot, earning Eelis an assist. As an area for improvement, I would mention coordination and skating. Overall, a good performance.

Comments: Jonne is a left-handed defenseman of medium height who played on his team’s second defensive pair, as well as on the power play and penalty kill. He delivered a consistent performance throughout the game. He did not hesitate to protect the goalie when needed. He was very strong on the penalty kill, recording two stick blocks in one shift and two additional blocks with his body during the game. In the defensive zone, he played with an active stick and used his body well – for example around the defensive blue line, where he played hard and didn’t allow opponents to get through. He also showed an impressive contribution offensively. He scored one goal himself when he found space in the slot and placed his shot accurately into the left side of the net. Another goal came after his quick shot from the blue line, which was deflected by one of his teammates.

Comments: Anttoni is a left-handed center of medium height who played on his team’s first line and was also used on the power play and the penalty kill. He won nine out of fourteen faceoffs. From a defensive standpoint, he provided good close support in the defensive zone and stayed near the play to recover the puck. From an offensive perspective, he showed good puck protection in the offensive zone and was not afraid to play with the puck, which he demonstrated for example during zone entries where he confidently took the puck in himself. In the power play he also showed good backchecking after puck losses.

Comments: Amos is a left-handed center of medium height who played on his team’s third line and also on the power play and penalty kill. He was a bit quiet in the first period, but gradually found his rhythm. He showed good forechecking and backchecking while using an active stick, which we could see twice – once on the penalty kill, where he defended the neutral zone well, and a second time during another strong backcheck in the neutral zone, where he regained the puck for his team. He played an important role on his team’s sixth goal when, on a two-on-one situation, he shot toward the far pad to create a rebound for his teammate, who increased the score. As an area for improvement, I see faceoffs, as he won only five out of fourteen. However, it was a good performance.

Comments: Viljami is a left-handed defenseman of medium height who played on his team’s first defensive pair, as well as on the power play and penalty kill. He showed very good movement without the puck and especially with the puck on his stick. He moved well from tight to open space, did not panic under pressure, and his agility allowed him to maneuver effectively. He demonstrated this confidently when, as the last player with the puck in the defensive zone, he executed a nice spin-o-rama to get past an opponent and made a constructive breakout – strong in breakouts both at even strength and on the power play. He played physical hockey with an active stick in the neutral zone and defensive zone. He blocked one shot with his stick during the penalty kill. Viljami also presented himself well in the offensive zone, staying calm on the stick below the blue line even under pressure and moving the puck quickly. A very good performance.

He had a very strong start to the game and was highly noticeable throughout the first period. He showed good game presence in the offensive zone, was quick on the puck, and played with natural flow. His soft hands and ability to move the puck quickly caused major problems for the opposition. He consistently attacked the slot and generated shooting opportunities, recording four shots in this game. He converted one of them into a goal: after a faceoff in the right circle, he won the puck, took three quick strides into the slot, and released a quick, hard, and accurate shot that gave the goalie no chance. He was also useful on the power play, where he moved the puck quickly to his teammates in the offensive zone. Twice in the offensive zone he showed fast backchecking with an active stick, quickly regaining possession and providing valuable puck possession time for his team.

He is a strong skater, which he showed through his determination and drive to the net. We could see this, for example, in a situation where he confidently carried the puck from the corner all the way into the net-front area and finished with a shot. Overall, he tried to find his teammates through passes into the net-front area. He also operated in this area during power plays, where he battled for space, and he showed good zone-entry ability – he was not afraid to take responsibility and carry the puck into the offensive zone himself.

Comments: Joel is a left-shot left wing of medium size who played on his team’s first line, as well as on the power play and penalty kill. He wasn’t very noticeable in the first period, but his performance kept improving and he again became one of the most impactful players on the ice. Joel is a very strong skater. He can build high speed both with and without the puck, and thanks to his agility he is difficult to dispossess. He is skilled with the puck and showed good stickhandling, for example on a play where his soft hands allowed him to cut into the slot and create pressure toward the net and after his rebound attempt, his team scored their third goal, on which he earned an assist. His overall presence in the net-front area was strong, which he confirmed on his goal, reacting quickly and finishing effectively. We also saw moments where he actively participated in faceoff plays. He was useful on the power play as well, operating on the right side and threatening the opponent with quick shots.

Comments: Jiro is a left-shot left wing of tall stature who played on his team’s second line, as well as on the power play and penalty kill. He presented himself with physical play, which we could see for example when he finished a check in the neutral zone. He was especially useful for his team on the power play, where he operated on the left side and brought calmness to the unit. During power plays he spent a lot of time on the puck, gaining puck possession time for his team, moved the puck quickly, and used his soft hands. This also helped during zone entries, and when he received the puck from a teammate, he did not hesitate to shoot – his shots were quick. Because he played a lot with the puck, there were also some turnovers, including one situation where he held the puck too long and lost it near the offensive blue line. However, he also showed good backchecking in the power play when his team lost the puck and Jiro quickly activated to win it back as soon as possible. There is room for improvement in his 5-on-5 play, but overall it was a good performance.
