Logan CooleyNTDP U18USHLLC5’10”174Notre Dame | 2022West Mifflin, PA20042021-2022: A

NTDP U18 vs Cornell, October 23, 2021: Cooley is very smart with his stick positioning on the forecheck and when applying pressure to the opponent. He has quick hands and a quick mind which allows him to anticipate where the opponent will take the puck while pressuring their body to creates turnovers. He scored a power play goal in the 2nd period, he took a pass from #19 Cutter Gauthier down low near the goal line and went to the net on his forehand to score. The shot went off the defender and Cooley saw opening down low. During the 3rd period Cooley displayed his hand-eye coordination on the rush as two passes on one shift were off the on entry, but Cooley easily settled down the puck down with his stick to maintain possession. Again, Cooley’s skating ability and stick skills allowed him to create chances.

World Jr. Summer Showcase: U20 Team USA White vs Finland, July 30, 2021: In the 5-4 Team USA win Cooley earned 22:55 in total ice time, 4:17 while on the power play. Statistically he finished 1 goal, 1 assist, was plus 3, had 5 shots on goal (1PP), 4 grade “A” scoring chances, won 1 of 3 face-offs, had 1 hit and had 6 giveaways versus 5 takeaways. The youngest player on Team USA’s roster looked more than comfortable. He had zero issues with the pace of play or game processing and with the exception of an offensive zone grey area turnover early in the first period Cooley was very responsible with the puck. As expected his edgework was excellent and his powerful cross under helped him create space in all three zones. An impressive outing for the 2004.

USHL: 2021 Biosteel All American Game, April 12, 2021: Cooley was one of the youngest players on the ice, as he is not draft eligible until next year’s draft, but still showed maturity in his game. He is a smooth skater and plays the game with his head up, making numerous plays to get out of his defensive zone and through the neutral zone to create rush opportunities. He registered one assist in this game but created at least four high-quality scoring chances, most coming because of his speed and skill off the rush. One area where Cooley looked to make improvements in his game was in the defensive end. The Notre Dame commit showed a good stick and created multiple turnovers. He also was effective on the breakout and did a great job of supporting his teammates low in the zone. Overall, he was solid in his performance offensively and made obvious strides in the defensive zone. Grade: A

USHL: Chicago Steel vs NTDP U17, February 24, 2021: Cooley had an excellent game, registering two goals in the third period to tie the game for his team. The Notre Dame commit played with pace throughout the game, moving his feet and creating scoring chances. He was especially effective on the rush, showing his ability to beat defenders with speed, but also using his vision to find teammates through seams. Cooley displayed his effectiveness on the rush all night, but it was really on display in the third when he scored two goals. On the first goal, he anticipated the play in front of him well, waited for his teammate to carry the puck around the net, and attacked the open ice in the slot, burying a quick shot. His second goal was a powerplay goal that came after he carried the puck the length of the ice, beat his defender wide, and finished with a nifty backhand shot that snuck in high on the short side. Overall, he has elite offensive skills and came up big for his team when they needed someone to step up. Grade: A

USHL: Des Moines, Sioux Falls, NTDP 17, Chicago, November 28, 2020: Another skilled forward for the USNTDP. His skating is efficient coming down the side boards and pulling up on a dime. He is able to get a burst of speed out of his escapes which give him space to make a play. He has a quick release but his in tight moves is what sets him apart. Grade: B+

USA U17 NTDP vs Soo Eagles. Two Games, October 15, 2020: Logan is a skilled player with decent size with elite skating stride with quick hands. He is shifty and elusive as he does a great job of protecting the puck as he will use the spin arama move and accelerate from the defender and will take the puck to the net. He had a great 2 shifts on the penalty kill as he set up Nazar on the back door for a goal on a 2 vs 1 and scored a top shelf goal as he used his quick, accurate release. He is a smart player who uses his vision to set up his teammates in the offensive zone as is constantly moving his feet for a return pass.  Grade A

NAHL: NTDP 17s vs Johnstown, October 8, 2020: Shifty forward that can put the moves on using either his hands or his feet. Able to make a play controlling the puck in the offensive zone having patients to find his teammates in a scoring area. Grade: B+

U16: Northeast Pack Showcase, November 22, 2019: The 2004 that showed not only is he an elite skater with breakaway speed but he displays great hand as he can zip a pass tape to tape or sauce a pass through defenders to open teammates. Liked his quick release not giving goalie time to get set. Feel he can be a scorer at the next level. Looks like a smart coachable player that backchecks with a purpose and through the guts of the ice. An energy guy for his team that works hard every second of every shift. College: Notre Dame Grade B+

U15: USHL Showcase, October 25, 2019: Logan played in both the U15 and U16 divisions on the weekend and played big minutes for each team. He is the top line center and plays in all situations. His best asset is his skating. He has long, lanky legs that are bowed which lets him accelerate quickly. He is a smaller forward and still has room to fill out and put on weight. He plays at top speed and uses his quickness to put defenders on their heels. He slashes through the neutral zone and is effective on zone entries. He has touch on his passes and can make plays in tight spaces. He processes the game quickly and identifies passing options before snapping tape-to-tape passes. He plays a solid positional game in the defensive end and while he will need to get stronger, he does an effective job staying in front of opponents. Has a great deal of upside and should be a NTDP candidate. Grade: A- College: Notre Dame

USA Hockey Select 15 Development Camp, August 24, 2019: Cooley was an NZ All-Star selection here. He played a slick, slippery and fast game. On the rush he could break down opponents with clever hands and stickhandle his way through traffic. His body is wiry and his legs and long and he gets great extension in his stride. He is explosive. Cooley also made deke moves on the go and immediately hit an open teammate for an odd-man rush. He sees the whole ice and he sees the play after the play; nifty passes and has a quick release. One one play he cut in after gaining the zone, turned around and made a great drop pass as he was spinning. It showed his vision and athletic intelligence. He also pulled up, curled and hit the late forward or defenseman on offensive rushes. Finally, he showed he could drive middle, draw the defense in and dish to his streaking wings. He moved to good spots once in the offensive zone and buried a shot up top on a catch and shoot from DeWolf against Orange. Logan also showed a slippery element along the wall where he went with contact, stopped and started quickly and spun from contact. He also got off checks well and was aware through contact. In his end, the center worked hard to defend in his end. He is tough and took smart angles. He also stayed low and flat to help his defensemen on the breakout. He never took off and left them unsupported. Played like a 200 foot guy with tons of upside, athletic ability, vision and hockey sense. Grade: College: Notre Dame

World Selects Invite 2004 Division, July 10, 2019: Logan is an elite player in this age group. His stride is long and that makes him explosive and really fast. He used his speed to get in on the forecheck and hunt pucks. He is not afraid to do the dirty work and the Notre Dame commit competed hard. He is an amazing penalty killer as his anticipation, IQ, speed and quick stick all combine to play great defense. We liked that he scored here because he was a bit snake bit at Nationals. His wiry frame is stronger than it looks and he played around the net a lot. His hands are slick and quick and his vision is excellent. There is no denying his skill and the way he moves. It’s pretty to watch. Logan has lots of tools and he played excellent hockey here. Led the Kings in scoring and broke out all the tools in Philly. High ceiling player. College: Notre Dame Grade: A

U14: USA Hockey Nationals, April 30, 2019: Logan is wiry and at times appears to be all legs. We mean that as a compliment as his stride is long, explosive and productive. Great glide that keeps him around the play and the mobility and change of pace to avoid opponents. Cooley looked more the playmaker here as he showed excellent vision all over the ice and made plays/passes at top speed. He is slick and long. Excellent in all situations. Even made a flip pass over the skirt of the goal onto a player’s stick. Tough to defend as he moved the puck and stayed moving. Showed off some dangle and can break down defenders any way he wants. Our guess is he can score but that was an area we would have liked to see more. Logan finished with 1G and 5A over the five games. Excellent prospect with a high ceiling. College: Notre Dame

U14: Silver Stick Finals 2004s, February 10, 2019: Logan is a gifted player as he has both the mental and physical tools to create up ice. He passed and attacked the net equally well so there is balance in what he brings with the puck. Defenses think they have him and he creates a way out. Cooley sees the play beyond the play and he often waits and baits opponents into bad spots and then exploits their mistakes. He is patient poised and meticulous in his decisions. He can make something from nothing and is a high ceiling prospect. There is not another player here who better combined the ability to process plays with the ability to create. Really hard to defend him. Can fly, stickhandle and change direction quickly. He has some growing to do and he has a chance to be special. College: Notre Dame Grade: A

U14: USHL Fall Classic, October 24, 2018: Smaller right-shot forward with slick hands and good edges. He has a good first step and will change directions quickly. Changes pace and is patient when the puck is on his stick. Will use his edges to cut to the soft areas of the ice in order to get more time. Has good touch and made several plays in space that created scoring chances. He will need to put together a more consistent game as he moves up to the next level. Grade: B-

STX 68 Combine, August 20, 2018: Cooley fired a lot of shots in this showcase. He is able to find open looks as well as maneuver with the puck to create space for himself to operate. Very speedy and shifty, super elusive with the puck. He was very difficult to defend. Very annoying to play against defensively. He was always picking pockets on the backcheck and causing turnovers on the forecheck.
