Maxim Masse

Maxim Masse (RW, R, 6’2″, 192, Chicoutimi Sagueneens, 04/07/2006)

2024 NHL Draft Grade: B+

Maxim Masse is a 6’2″, 185 pound right shot right wing who, once he gets going, possesses good straight line speed. His puck skills are top-notch, consistently showing patience and creativity in traffic. He is particularly effective on the half boards in his own zone. There is little doubt in his potential to develop into a power forward in the professional game as Masse plays a heavy two-way game. With that said we feel there is room for improvement in foot speed and explosiveness to maximize his effectiveness at the professional level.

During the CHL Top Prospects game, Masse appeared more relaxed and comfortable as the game progressed, demonstrating his adaptability and versatility as a player capable of fulfilling various roles within the lineup. His standout performance in a previous game, where he scored four goals against the Islanders, attested to his scoring prowess and ability to capitalize on opportunities in dirty areas of the ice.

However, Masse’s skating remains a point of scrutiny among scouts, with concerns regarding his acceleration and edge control once he is at top speed. While he has shown improvement in this area, continued development will be essential for him to reach his full potential in the NHL. Nevertheless, Masse’s playoff performance against Moncton showcased his ability to contribute in both offensive and defensive capacities, displaying a well-rounded game and a willingness to compete in all situations.

Drawing comparisons to former NHL power forward Glen Murray, Masse shares similarities in his physical style of play and scoring touch. Despite questions surrounding Murray’s skating ability, he found success as a top-six forward, a trajectory that Masse could replicate based on his competitiveness, grit, and scoring ability.

In conclusion, Maxim Masse projects to be an early 3rd round pick in the upcoming NHL Draft. With continued focus on improving his skating and refining his overall game, he has the potential to make a significant impact at the professional level.
