MHL: Chelyabinsk Belye Medvedi at Magnitogorsk Stalnye Lisy

Yaroslav FedoseyevBelye Medvedi ChelyabinskMHLRD6’0″181Chelyabinsk, RUS2007

Game Grade: C+

Comments: Fedoseyev is a November born 2007 so he will not be eligible until 2026. He will need to make a lot of improvements before his draft year but showed some promise in tonight’s game. He is very patient with the puck and was deliberate in his passing to make sure that the puck went to the best option. He made some smart choices in the neutral zone to beat defenders wide then dump the puck in when there was no one open from his team. He showed some linewalking potential as he was able to open up some space for himself to shoot. His shot is very weak for the time being and he chose a couple of poor times to fire from the point, but I liked the fact that he was not afraid to let it go. Defensively he wandered a bit and made a couple of poor reads in the neutral zone that led to odd man rushes. He was able to gap up well and stay in front of opponents on the rush at times but not consistently. Fedoseyev is going to need a lot of work in refining his soft skills and decision making. He has plenty of time to do so and has a solid base formed that should make it easy to build on.

Stepan GorbunovBelye Medvedi ChelyabinskMHLLC6’4″196Chelyabinsk, RUS20062023-2024: C

Game Grade: B-

Comments: Gorbunov is a 6’5 195 lb forward with a smooth skating ability and is eligible for the 2024 draft. He is a fluid skater and able to accelerate very quickly when he gets going in transition. He is able to get to top speed with a couple of explosive strides and uses this ability well to rush the puck up ice with confidence. He showed off some skilled moves at times and was able to use his hands to beat defenders and cut into open ice. He is patient with the puck and keeps his head up to scan for open teammates. Stepan was able to get a couple of shot attempts off. Most hit the net or bar, showing off some good accuracy but needs to improve his shooting form to add more power. As the game went on, his energy dipped a bit and he was not as effective but was still able to contribute. He was given time on both the power play and penalty killing units. His size, skating, and hands combo make for a very interesting prospect. He needs to add a lot of muscle as he was easily bumped off the puck at times but worth a look in one of the later rounds.

Alexander SiryatskyStalnye Lisy MagnitogorskMHLLD6’2″159Omsk, RUS20062023-2024: B

Game Grade: B-

Comments: Siryatsky is a 6’2, draft eligible defenseman. He is a very agile skater and gets creative with some of his moves away from pressure. He pulled off some skilled footwork in combination with quick hands to jump past defenders into space. He pulled off a skilled spin move around a forechecker when jumping into the offensive one. He was patient with the puck and pulled off some crisp breakout passes to move play up ice. Sometimes he was a bit too patient and let his options slip away. He needs to work on being more confident with his pass selections and making the decision when the option is available. Unlikely to be drafted but potential KHL defenseman with improvements.

Matvei OnishchenkoStalnye Lisy MagnitogorskMHLLLW5’11”154Chelyabinsk, RUS20052023-2024: C

Game Grade: C+

Comments: Draft eligible Onishenko is a skilled and very speedy forward with some good offensive ability. He is unfortunately very undersized at 5’9 146 lbs and this was very clearly an issue in tonight’s game. He pushes pace up ice and can accelerate to top speed with a few quick strides. He has skilled hands and was able to work his way past defenders on his way to the net on occasion. The big problem is his strength. He was very easily knocked off the puck and once the opponents realized this, he was easily neutralized for the rest of the game. Ton of skill but until he adds weight, he will continue to be ineffective.
