MHL: Omsk Yastreby at Krasnoyarsk Rysi

Daniil BobinKrasnoyarskie RysiMHLLRW5’10”172Barnaul, RUS2006Not yet rated

Game Grade: B-

Comments: Draft eligible Bobin had a decent game in my first viewing of him today. I really liked his work without the puck. He jumped into battles and dug the puck out very well. I wrote down at least 3 or 4 occasions where he came into a scrum after it had already started and he was able to break the puck out within seconds and quickly turn it towards the net. He applied good pressure on both the forecheck and backcheck, able to force a couple of turnovers throughout the game. This was an impressive trait and I think he might be able to take it up to a higher level if he pushes his motor up a notch. He often looked like he was only going 50-60% but was still very effective. If he could pick his foot speed up another notch and not give up so easily on some of his attempts, I think he could become a defensive menace. With the puck he was a bit less impressive. He showed off some good straight line speed and quick acceleration but was unable to beat defenders 1v1 on the rush. There were times where he showed off some quick/flashy hands but was never able to generate anything from his moves. He really did not have the puck on his stick very often this game. Solid performance but I will be looking for more out of his game the next time I watch.

Rodion Kazantsev
Omskie YastrebyMHLLC5’10”157Omsk, RUS2007

Game Grade: C+

Comments: 15 year old Kazantsev has cracked the Omsk lineup for the last few weeks and has steadily improved over that time. I think today was his best performance thus far. He looked really confident with the puck and was able to rush up ice with speed. He wasn’t able to push it much further than the blue line and was shut down easily but I think it is a good start and his urge to give difficult situations a real try will be great for his development. He accelerates insanely fast and his top speed is impressive as well. I really hope they continue to give him minutes when some of the older guys return to the lineup. I think Kazantsev has the potential to be a monster if he can refine his hands, add some weight, and continue to play with confidence. He has a ton of time to develop and should become a star for the hawks.

Andrei KuryanovOmskie YastrebyMHLLLW5’9″153Orekhovo-Zuyevo, RUS20072024-2025: B

Game Grade: B+

Comments: 16 year old Kuryanov had an impressive game and this was by far his best appearance compared to his other performances this season. He showed off some skilled edgework that allowed for clean escapes from pressure. Early in the game he had some trouble handling the puck and fumbled a couple of quality chances because of it. He turned over the puck under pressure and also lost a dangerous opportunity because he was unable to control a pass for an easy one time finish. He came alive in the second period and immediately looked like a different player. He began flying up and down the ice and showed off a lot more confidence with the puck. He transitions well and is able to use the whole ice to take advantage of opening lanes rather than skate straight line. He is going to need some work with his choices on the rush as he did not alway seem to know what to do to beat defenders but he showed off great skating and hands that should become great assets once his brain catches up. He was able to score the second goal of the game on a powerplay where he found a rebound in close and was able to bury it. His best play of the game came early in the third when he stole a puck in the NZ and immediately turned it back up ice. After the zone entry, he cut back and hit a teammate perfectly in stride and set up a great scoring chance. With the puck he always has his head up and scans for open teammates. He doesn’t always choose the best option but I like the risks he takes when attempting to set up his teammates. It is going to take Kuryanov some time to refine his skills and learn better habits with the puck. For such a young kid I think his base skill level is already very high and he seems to have improved a lot over the course of this season. I think he has a great chance of becoming a top prospect over the next few years.

Yegor PrivalovOmskie YastrebyMHLRLW5’11”174Ryazan, RUS20072024-2025: B

Game Grade: C+

Comments: Better game for Privalov tonight but still looking for more from him. For such a young player he has a great build and possesses a lot of skill. He made quick passes tonight and was able to generate a few chances around the net. He shows that he has skilled hands at times but often over handles the puck and forces unnecessary turnovers. He showed off some decent off puck play, applying pressure to opponents in all three zones. He just has to keep his feet moving instead of trying to break up play only using his stick. I think Yegor is just scratching the surface and he should develop into another star player to come out of Omsk Academy.
