Tanner Adams (RW, R, 5’11”, 184, Providence College, 09/02/2005, Providence)

Game Grade: B+

Adams is a below average sized right shot high energy forward. He has a nice combination of puck anticipation and a quick first step that allows him to win races to 50/50 pucks or pick off passing attempts. He picked up the primary assist on Providence’s fluky fist goal of the game but the goal never happens if Adams does not have the awareness to stay on the right side of the puck while his linemate was engaged in a 1 on 1 battles for the puck in the corner. His positioning allowed him to find the puck and then use his strongside defenseman who was the goal scorer. Adams also earned the primary assist on the The Friar’s third goal of the game on a quick transition zone entry. On the play he recognized that his defenseman was going to win a loose puck so he posted up at the strongside blueline. After entry Adams saw he had a hard middle drive drawing the opposing weakside defender deep into the slot so fired a dot-lane wide pass to his left to a wide open left shot who scored. Both assists came because of game awareness and are the type of simple play that is required for success in professional hockey. During offensive zone cycling Adams had two quick stick one-timers that did not score but were bullets. Adams won his puck battles by having a low leverage point, then pulling the puck out of the scrum and using his hips to protect the puck while he scanned the ice looking to make pass.

Luke Krys (D, R, 6’2″, 185, Providence College, 09/27/2000, Brown)

Game Grade: A-

Standing at 6’2″ Krys is a right shot defenseman with an NHL frame. He has an upright stance with a shoulder width skating base, fluid three quarter length strides and a return leg that lands on its flat edge. He showed above average straight line speed with quickness in 5′ to 10′ sprints for loose pucks or the valuable ice. During defensive transition Krys surfed through the neutral zone which allowed him to mee the line rush or puck carrier near his defensive blueline. Offensively he looked away from his intended target or showed deception by moving away from his teammate before snapping a hard flat pass. Krys scored a goal on a one-timer from the right dot-lane after recognizing space in the high slot due to the defensive wingers playing so low. The shot was not a bullet but it was a one-timer and one-timers cause chaos. He also had the second assist on Providence’s third goal of the game after winning a loose puck just before the redline. On the play he showed the awareness to not give up the redline while retreating which kept the pressure on Northeastern’s defensemen by not allowing then to set their gaps. Krys has a quick release snapshot that was consistently 6″ off the ice and he hit the net. Of note he did have four shots blocked with two of the blocks coming at the top of the crease, another coming in the low slot and the other coming in the slot after he activated in for a scoring opportunity. None of the blocked shots hurt him and the fourth block indirectly led to The Friars third goal.
