Carter Wilkie (C, R, 6’1″, 191, RIT, 04/03/2000, RIT)
Game Grade: B
This was a more complete, 200-ft game for Wilkie. While he did well in many aspects in all three zones, he did not necessarily thrive in any one skill or display high-end talents. He fared better at the face-off dot going like 50-60%. Offensively he was a bit quiet 5v5 although had plenty of minutes on the 1st power-play unit. He made a nice quick, unexpected back-door pass from the corner to #16 Gonsalves in 2nd period for a golden opportunity. He also did manage to pick up an assist on the meaningless 5th goal 4v4 situation later in the 3rd period on drop pass to #10 Cassaro. Need to mention his goal scored was called back on a goalie interference call. He took two penalties in the 2nd period, one coming in late at the net to defend teammate vs #10 Maust, and then picked up an odd interference penalty too after moving a broken stick on the power play on the offensive zone after his shot broke the shaft of the opponent’s stick. He would then also draw a 5-minute & game misconduct penalty on #10 Maust in the 3rd period in the defensive zone after the face-off as he took a cross-check & punch to his head. Wilkie was good in supporting his defensemen on the breakout coming low as option or picking up loose pucks for possession. He was utilized in various situations and skates fairly well in agility, balance, and edgework. One must also keep in mind, that Robert Morris was a very weak team, so assessment weight should be low. While overall is was a solid performance, Wilkie’s skill sets are worthy of an AHL contract to let him develop his game and see where he flourishes.
