Niklas Aaram-Olsen (LW, L, 6’1″, 186, Orebro HK, 04/19/2008, Boston University) Niklas Aaram-Olsen is a 6’1′, 186 lb left-shot winger who has produced at an elite rate at the J20 Nationell level (20-20-40 in 29 games) and dominated internationally with Norway’s U20 team, but his projection remains heavily tied to whether his offensive habits can translate to the pace and physical demands of North American hockey and the NHL. The offensive toolkit is clear. He generates quality opportunities (7.0 shot attempts/game, 3.2 grade ‘A’ chances/game) and finishes at an efficient 15%. He has a legitimate scoring touch, while also showing playmaking vision / timing (0.82 pre-shot passes/game) and the ability to extend offensive zone possession. He can make plays at top speed, and he consistently finds soft ice to attack. However, the concerns are equally clear when projecting forward: he has yet to register a point in 16 SHL games, and his 48% puck battle win rate combined with low physical engagement (0.75 hits/game) show he is not consistently winning inside ice or imposing himself against stronger, faster competition. He often tries to force plays through traffic rather than playing high percentage hockey, and his overall game away from the puck remains average. There is clear offensive upside here, but it is currently environment-dependent, and without greater strength, improved puck management and puck protection skills, and a more consistent compete level in contested areas, his production will not translate beyond junior or international play. Projection-wise, Aaram-Olsen is a mid-first round draft consideration based on his scoring ability alone, but unless he can elevate his pace, compete level, and decision-making, he projects more as a top-six player in Europe rather than a reliable top-six NHL contributor.
