OHL: Oshawa Generals vs Sudbury Wolves

Ontario Hockey League
Sudbury Wolves visiting the Oshawa Generals

On Sunday November 7th the Sudbury Wolves played visitors to the host Oshawa Generals. In a game where the Generals never trailed, the host team earned a 4-1 win. Sudbury was on the last game of a 3 in 3, while host Oshawa had played Friday but had Saturday to rest.

Late 2003/2004 Draft Eligible Prospects
Oshawa The only late 2003 in the lineup tonight for Oshawa was Andrew Whitton, a big winger who was not used a lot and will be reported on when I have more viewings.

Sudbury

Kocha DelicSudbury WolvesOHLLC5’10”184Sudbury Wolves | 2020Mississauga, ON20042021-2022: C

Kocha is an average sized forward who displays fast feet and a decent stick skill set. He displays speed, uses it to chip and get on defensemen fast and will at least finish with a bump on his man. Grade C+

Evan KonyenSudbury WolvesOHLRF5’10”170Sudbury Wolves | 2020Mars, PA20042021-2022: C

Evan had an impressive game in this viewing. He is an average sized 2004 birth year right winger. He is a really nice skater who displays straight ahead speed, mobility, and great edges allowing him to turn and cut in small ice areas. Coupled with a pretty slick stick this makes Evan a real threat any time he has the puck in the offensive zone. When he attacks he pushes the pace of the play by attacking the blue line with speed, but he has a real nice change of pace that creates a bit of separation once the defense gaps up, and allows Evan to find trail men with good accurate passes. A fourth round draft choice to Sudbury from the Pittsburg Penguins U15 program where Evan was one of his teams scoring leaders Evan did not see any game action last season due to the virus, but jumped right into the offensive swing of things with Sudbury this season where he is third in team scoring. He has obviously gained his coaches trust early in his OHL career as he is used on their first power play unit. Grade B+

Ethan LarmandSudbury WolvesOHLRC5’11”181Sudbury Wolves | 2019Midland, ON20032021-2022: C

Another very impressive draft eligible prospect as a late 2003 birth year. I found Ethan to be a very strong, very strong on his blades type of player who possesses all the intangibles needed to grow his game and advance the ladder. Work ethic was exemplified each and every shift, he is fast in on the fore check and he does not hesitate to finish with a hard hit on a defenseman. Good in the corners, high compete level and was used first up on penalty kill as well as power play. He is already among the scoring leaders on this team, and he has a good upside. Grade B+

Nolan Collins is draft eligible and played but I didn’t see enough out of him this game to report.

2003 Draft Eligible players not taken in this years draft but worthy of reports
Oshawa

Daniel MichaudOshawa GeneralsOHLLF6’2″190Oshawa Generals | 2019Burlington, ON20032021-2022: C

Daniel is a big 6’3 forward who C/W who plays on Oshawa’s top line. Once going he goes well with speed and mobility but could use some explosiveness in his first steps to get off the mark a bit quicker. He showed some real effective use of his size down low in the corners and in front of the net, but Daniel would really benefit from adding some bite and physicality into his game more often as he is not a pure offensive player and is likely suited for a grinding role. Grade B

Kevin NiedenzOshawa GeneralsOHLLRW6’1″148Oshawa Generals | 2021Berlin20032021-2022: C

This is Kevin’s first year of North American hockey, having played all of his previous hockey in Germany. The first thing that jumps out at you is his feet. They are fast and they never stop moving. He not only gets on top of pucks fast but if he is anywhere close to a defenseman on pursuit Kevin will out race him for the puck. He did just that on Oshawa’s first goal, getting to a puck behind the net first, and banging it out quickly in front of the net for a streaking linemate to bang home. A goal scored by pure hustle. His speed is dangerous and his pace is excellent. He will be interesting to watch develop as he spends more time in this league, adjusts, and continues to develop. Grade B

Sudbury

Landon McCallumSudbury WolvesOHLRF5’11”172Sudbury Wolves | 2019Brantford, ON20032021-2022: C

This average sized centerman was impressive with just how smart he plays in all 3 zones. His hockey IQ was obvious. The way he protects, the check angles he takes, his change of pace, all signs that he is thinking the game. He was exceptional of a 5 vs 3 penalty kill with his ability to cut off a pass lane, or recover quickly to the net to find an open man. He seemed very crafty. Grade B+

Andre AnaniaSudbury WolvesOHLLD6’1″192Sudbury Wolves | 2019Richmond Hills, ON20032021-2022: C

Andre is a good sized defenseman at 6’1 who plays his position well, seldom out of position, and always between man and net. He is primarily defensive, with excellent man focus who can hit and contain. However, his shot blocking was exceptional. He never hesitated to get in front of pucks, dissuaded a lot of shot attempts, and blocked several. Great on the penalty kill. Grade B+
