Comments: Bowen made many big saves in this win. Despite the large score difference, he was challenged and faced quality shots and chances against. He faced 34 shots and only gave up 2 goals. He made an unbelievable save on a backdoor rebound shot that he was able to kick out his leg and deny. Bowen also faced some breakaway chances that he turned aside with confidence. He moves well and is a calm, well-positioned goalie. He is sometimes a little bit deep and his feet can get a bit wide too but he puts himself in good positions to make saves and shows good athleticism overall.

Comments: David is a puck-moving defenseman who stands up opponent’s at the blue line and shuts down rushes. He plays a simple game and quietly makes accurate first passes to get his team out of the zone and turn the puck up the ice quickly. If he has an open player ahead of him he moves it without hesitation. On the defensive side of the puck he keeps a good gap and steps up in the neutral zone, denying opponent’s entry into the zone with possession. He can improve his foot speed as there was one play where he was beat in a footrace to a loose puck which resulted in a partial breakaway against.

Comments: Jakub is a strong-skating defenseman who impacts the game at both ends of the ice. He handles the puck well and sees the ice to make smart plays. He shoots the puck well and with purpose from the point, placing it in areas where his teammates can get sticks on it. He had two assists in this game, both on well-placed point shots. One of them created a rebound and the other one was tipped on it’s way in. Jakub also scored a goal on a point shot from the middle of the blue line, getting his wrister off quickly and beating the goalie top-shelf. He is clearly an offensive threat but he is also a very effective defender, often standing up plays at the blue line, playing the body and denying entries. He made a lot of good breakouts, sometimes by using his speed to skate the puck and other times making nice cross-ice passes into open space.

Comments: Parker is a tough-defender who has a high hockey IQ and moves the puck well to create offensive chances. He jumps up in the play any chance he gets and is involved in rushes, getting one high-quality scoring chance on a 2v1 rush. He scored the first goal of the game off of a one-timer from the corner of the blue line that caught the goalie by surprise and snuck underneath him. Parker also had three assists in the game because of his ability to make smart passes. On one of his assists he pulled the puck off the wall in the offensive zone, escaped to his backhand and then made a hard, accurate pass to his partner who shot and scored. Another assist came off of a backdoor no-look pass he made. He is also a very effective defender on the rush, stepping up and shutting down plays in the neutral zone. He angles off opponents and finishes his checks along the wall. Parker quarterbacks the powerplay for his team, distributing the puck well and also being a shooting threat when lanes open up. On one goal against he was caught wide outside the dots and a pass beat him inside which lead to a breakaway. He keeps his gaps tight but needs to make sure people can’t get in behind him, especially to the middle of the ice.

Comments: Keaton was able to create a lot of offense and score two goals from his third-line role by going to the net hard and being a presence in the slot. He scored a goal early in the game by tipping a point shot up high above the goalie’s glove into the net. His second goal came off of a rebound that he quickly jumped on and poked through the goalie’s five-hole. Keaton almost scored another goal as he snuck in behind the opponent’s defenseman and received a long pass to go in on a breakaway. He showed some good retrievals using deception to buy himself time and space with the puck. He also had a great forecheck where he used his stick to cause a turnover and then won the puck and immediately brought it to the net and tried to stuff it inside the nearside post. He gets the net front and makes plays.

Comments: Mason uses his speed and shiftiness through the neutral zone to put pressure on opponents. He attacks with speed but does not do so in a straight-line, instead using quick crossovers and shifts on his edges to mix up the defensemen’s feet. He created a great chance by making a move outside and then quickly attacking inside, beating two defenders to the middle. When he runs out of space he bumps the puck wide and drives to the net. He scored a goal by going to the net and being ready for a puck that bounced off of the back wall and one-touching it into the empty net before the goalie could get across. Mason had a great scoring chance on a shorthanded breakaway but he drove pas the net after the shot and wasn’t in position to get a rebound.

Comments: Gabriel is a hard-working winger who pressures hard on the forecheck and always finds his way into the middle of the ice with the puck. He is very physical in the corners, battling hard for pucks all over the ice and using his body to win pucks on the forecheck. He will backcheck hard as well and finish his checks in the defensive zone. Gabriel wins pucks and then immediately finds ways to get into the middle of the ice. He made a great cut into the middle of the ice on a zone entry and then deceptively dropped it to a teammate cutting in behind him for a scoring chance. He also drew a penalty by driving into dangerous space in the middle and getting an opponent to hook him. On the powerplay he plays at the net-front because of his toughness and ability to retrieve pucks. He also plays an important role on the penalty-kill where he again uses his speed and good work ethic to be successful. He created a scoring chance on the penalty-kill by chipping the puck past a defender and then using his straight-line speed to get around him and going in on a breakaway where he not only had the initial breakaway chance but got his own rebound as well. Gabriel has soli puck-handling as well which allows him to weave through people in the neutral zone.

Comments: Joshua gets zone exits with his smart, heads-up passes from the wing and then gets into the offensive zone and again uses his high awareness to move the puck. He uses shoulder checks and reads plays quickly to understand his options. On the breakout he used a variety of options to effectively get the puck out of the zone, sometimes looking east/west into open space and other times simply chipping the puck into the neutral zone for teammates to skate onto it. In the offensive zone he moves the puck well and then moves his feet to find open space to be an option for a pass back. He made a crafty pass as he was skating behind the net, bumping it back diagonally into the soft space on the side of the net. Joshua is effective on zone entries as well, finding space as a trailer and getting pucks to the and also bumping pucks wide and driving the middle. He scored a goal late in the game by one-timing a pass into the net before the goalie could get across. He had one giveaway on the powerplay and also took an offensive-zone penalty with under two minutes in the second period of a one-goal game. Overall he had a very positive impact on the game because of his smart puck movement in all zones.

Comments: Matej is a speed, skilled center who can create offensive chances. Although he mishandled the puck a few times early in the game and turned the puck over, he showed some good puck-handling and made some nifty passes as the game progressed. One of these passes was a behind the back pass in the offensive zone as he got a defender to bite and then dished it behind himself to an open teammate. Matej plays on the flank on the powerplay where he made some good looks to the weakside flank. In the defensive zone he showed a willingness to use his body along the wall to fight for pucks.

Comments: Dylan is a puck-moving forward who can possess the puck and find open options. He moves his feet with the puck and then headmans it to open players. He plays on the left flank on the powerplay and quarterbacks the play from there. He registered many shots from that space on the powerplay and also distributed the puck with hard, accurate passes. He had a grade A scoring chance on a weak side rebound opportunity but an unbelievable save robbed him of a goal. When he has the puck down low in the offensive zone he will possess it and use cut backs to create passing lanes into the dangerous areas. He executed a nice give and go with a teammate that created a great scoring chance. He was at the center of a lot of his team’s shots and chances in this game.

Comments: Kayden was involved in some of Erie’s best scoring chances in this game, being a threat in-zone and also on the rush. He had a knee-down one-timer chance in the slot that just missed and another chance on a nice tip of a point shot. Later in the game he had another chance where he took the puck from the corner, stepped up above the goal line into the slot, and turned and fired a shot that went just over the net. He also moved the puck well from the defensive zone and through the neutral zone. Kayden threaded a pass from high in the defensive zone to a teammate cutting behind the opponent’s defenseman in the neutral zone, creating a breakaway. He was able to get into the middle of the neutral zone and execute some bump and drive plays as well. In the defensive zone he often showed a good stick and an awareness of players in the soft space. He used his good stick to break up a pass out that would have been a great scoring chance. He had one dangerous turnover as he backhanded a puck through the middle up high in the defensive zone.

Comments: Gabriel is relied on by his team in all situations, playing a major role on the special teams units and being a go-to player in all important situations. He played on the flank on the powerplay where he used his strong one-time shot to create chances. He also identified open lanes to the other flank and passed pucks across to the weak-side when it was open. Gabriel was also a go-to penalty-killer for Erie where he was able to get pucks out of the zone and try to go on offense as well. On a couple of penalty-kill rushes he overhandled the puck and lost possession of it instead of making a safer play. He showed good awareness in even-strength play and made good decisions on zone entries, executing some bump and drive plays as well as taking a nice rebound shot on a 2v1. Although he is normally defensively aware, he did have a lapse that contributed to a goal against. He didn’t backcheck all the way and pick up. the open player, instead drifting back into the zone and failing to pick up the player who eventually scored.

Comments: Brett is a speedy winger who attacks quickly through the neutral zone and in transition. He gets pucks in behind the opponent’s defensemen and then wins footraces to them before making nice passes to setup plays in the offensive zone. He also created some breakaway chances with his speed and quick transition mentality. On his first breakaway chance he deked but couldn’t get it past the goalie but he put the second one away for a goal. On this goal he picked up a loose puck on a turnover and quickly went to the net and deked the goalie. Brett also picked up an assists in this game by winning an offensive zone face-off back to his teammate for a quick-strike goal. On the breakout he showed good awareness and puck movement, using the weak side of the ice to exit the zone. He made some east-west passes to the weak side winger and defenseman from along the wall to open up space.
