General Game Notes: Sudbury had the better of the play in the first period, going up 1-0 and they added to their lead in the first half of the second to make it 3-0. Oshawa went on to score 6 unanswered goals to win the game 6-3, including 2 on the powerplay.
Jaden Cholette (G, R, 6’3″, 176, Oshawa Generals, 01/30/2006)
Game Rating
B-
Cholette demonstrated solid defensive skills, making notable saves on various scoring chances. He consistently showed composure and quick reflexes in his position, particularly during odd-man rushes and breakaways. However, there were instances where he struggled to position himself for a potential save, such as the first goal against which was scored on a 2v1 backdoor pass. Despite this, he made several crucial saves to keep the game tied for most of it. His defensive positioning can be improved, particularly in high-scoring situations, but his overall reaction and instincts were sound. Additionally, he could benefit from refining his puck-handling and passing ability on the breakout.

Comments: Jaden is an athletic and confident goalie who has good size. He makes a lot of saves due to his athleticism and quickness. He showed his ability to get across the net quickly as well to get up and down with ease. His confidence shone through in his puck-handling where he came out to play pucks even in traffic situations where he was pressured to move the puck quickly. He can improve the technical side of his game to cover up some holes. He tends to get his feet wide and does not lead with his hands/stick which exposes his five-hole on all lateral plays. He gets across quickly but if he can lead with his hands and stick then he will close some of those gaps more quickly. The first goal he gave up was a five-hole goal from a bad angle on a pass-out. Although the puck was passed out, a better stick could have prevented this goal. He did make some nice saves on the backdoor and some of his saves were key to keeping his team in the game early on and allowing them to pull ahead later in the game.
Lucas Moore (D, R, 5’9″, 203, Oshawa Generals, 06/07/2005)

Comments: Lucas played a solid two-way game, making good plays defensively and also taking control of the play from the offensive blue line. He made some nice steps at the offensive blue line to shut the play down quickly and on one rush against he laid out to prevent a pass across on a 2v1. He moves his feet with the puck and has his head up as well to quickly identify his best options. This allowed him to make solid breakout passes, including to the weakside of the ice, and to also rush the puck sometimes. Along the offensive zone blue line he moved well and also quarterbacked the powerplay. He registered an assist on the powerplay by taking a one-time shot on a 5v3 that was tipped in front.

Comments: Haoxi is an offensive-defenseman who likes to have the puck on his stick. He roams around in the offensive zone looking to find space on the weakside. He needs to make sure that he does not get caught up ice though, as he was caught one time looking for some open space on the backdoor and wasn’t able to get back and defend a rush which became a partial breakaway. Haoxi assisted one of the goals with great puck protection up high in the offensive zone and then shot the puck on net creating a rebound that his teammate put away. He assisted another goal by joining the rush, bumping the puck wide and then driving the net. His teammate skated into space in the middle that he created by driving the net and scored.

Comments: Harrison scored two powerplay goals in this game to give his team the lead in the third period. He plays as the net front player on the powerplay where he does a good job screening and making his stick available. He scored the first goal by tipping a one-timer into the net and his second goal came off of a rebound that he tapped in past the goalie. He was also noticeable in the game for some big hits and toughness.
Luke Posthumus (C, R, 5’11”, 196, Oshawa Generals, 03/21/2005)
Game Rating
A-
Luke showcased his ability to create scoring opportunities through clever zone entry plays, often finding himself in position for shots on net. His agility allowed him to quickly change direction and evade defenders, as seen on two notable plays where he faked out a defenseman’s feet before advancing into the opponent’s zone. Additionally, Luke demonstrated solid puck-handling skills, which enabled him to make effective passes and create chances for his team. On the powerplay flank, he effectively utilized his one-timer ability, generating a couple of scoring opportunities.

Comments: Luke had a goal and three assists in the win. He used a mix of work ethic and strong-puck handling to create chances. He helped create the first goal of the game with his good screen and battle in front which allowed his teammate to get to the loose rebound. He created another goal by working hard on the forecheck and winning a race and then making a smart pass to a teammate by the strong-side post for an assist. He won footraces to other pucks on the forecheck in the game as well showing his good speed and work ethic to win pucks. He scored a goal by using a good delay and then walking into the middle of the ice and ripping a hard snapshot off of the back bar glove-side. His shot was hard and quick, beating the goalie cleanly. On the powerplay he played in the bumper position was his awareness was on display. He received a pass on his forehand in the slot and then dished it on his backhand to the weakside flank who shot resulting in a goal.
Onni Kalto (RW, L, 6’1″, 187, Oshawa Generals, 12/14/2006)
Game Rating
B
Onni Kalto showcases a well-rounded skill set that enables him to be an effective player. His speed is particularly notable, allowing him to drive past defenders with ease and generate scoring opportunities. He also demonstrates grit and determination, often taking on opponents in the corners and near the net. Kalto’s ability to transfer the puck quickly from one hand to another and maintain possession of the puck is impressive. When he does possess the puck, he makes calculated plays that showcase his potential. On the penalty kill, his speed and toughness allow him to pressure opponents effectively, making him a valuable asset in this capacity.

Comments: Onni is most noticeable for his skill with the puck and solid skating stride. He can create some chances on the rush with his good edges and speed with the puck but sometimes he overhandles and loses it. He likes to use toe drags to try to beat defenders and sometimes is successful but sometimes turns the puck over. Onni scored a nice goal on a rebound where he pulled the puck from his backhand to his forehand and shot it past the goalie quickly. His ability shows in waves, showing a high ceiling but sometimes disappearing.
Owen Griffin (C, R, 5’10”, 172, Oshawa Generals, 04/08/2007)
Game Rating
B+
Owen Griffin is a well-rounded center who excels with his skating, puck-handling, and vision. His speed allows him to win pucks and create turnovers, while also making plays on the ice. He is diligent in his defensive duties, using his positioning and stickhandling to cause issues for opponents. Griffin’s forechecking is effective, as he uses his quick feet and strong edges to separate himself from defenders. In high-pressure situations, Owen remains composed, earning him an assist with a quick centering pass during a 2-on-1 break. He also showed poise on a penalty shot, faking the goalie out before faltering on his second attempt. While Griffin’s shooting opportunities were limited in this game, his ability to set up teammates for scoring chances was evident. His energy levels remained consistent even under heavy double shifts, demonstrating his endurance and dedication to his team.

Comments: Owen stands out because of his high-level skating ability, using his quickness, speed, and good edges to maneuver around the ice with ease. He uses his good skating to defend well, pressuring opponents on the forecheck and in all areas of the ice. He didn’t have the puck on his stick as much in this game as he did in my previous viewing of him but he did have a few rushes where he got shots off. He scored a goal by going hard to the net-front and one-touching a pass out into the far side of the net just inside the post. He is a two-way centerman who can very effectively play a lot of roles for his team.
Kieron Walton (C, L, 6’5″, 229, Sudbury Wolves, 04/22/2006)
Game Rating
B+
Kieron Walton is a tall winger who excels with good decision-making and smart passing. He leverages his size and reach to win pucks in corners and create opportunities for his teammates. On offense, he uses clever plays off the wall and in tight spaces, often slipping pucks under defenders’ sticks. He also demonstrates effective shooting technique by pulling the puck in towards his body and changing angle. While Kieron’s speed is not exceptional, he uses his straight-line speed to backcheck hard and catch trailers. However, there are areas for improvement, such as quickly turning or stopping after a play, which can result in big circles behind the net. Additionally, he could benefit from working on more direct routes and reducing hesitation. Kieron’s powerplay performance showcases his ability to create opportunities from the flank, often finding open passing lanes with his hips square to the net. Overall, Kieron’s skill set is well-rounded and effective when utilized properly.

Comments: Kieron is a smart winger who can make plays all over the ice. He uses head checks before retrieveing pucks and always plays with his head up to understand the situation and make possession plays. He also possesses a hard, dangerous shot that he is willing to use from anywhere. He took 5 shots on net and attempted others that just missed high or wide. He got a lot of these shots off on zone entries. Kieron has solid puck-handling skills which allows him to make moves in-tight as well and he can get the puck around defenders and create passing and shooting lanes. He is mobile for his size but he is not quick-footed or shifty with his big frame. On the defensive side of the puck he works very hard too, backchecking consistently all the way to the defensive zone and catching trailers. One of his backchecks prevented a 2v1 opportunity as he caught up to the player without the puck and took away the attempted pass.

Comments: Daniel played a simple and safe game against Oshawa. He made simple chips out of the defensive zone when he didn’t have a pass to make and was able to effectively relieve pressure during some long shifts by doing so. He also made good plays in the offensive zone with the puck, moving it low to high to the point or cycling the puck low. He did not try to do too much and instead made the easy passes and plays he was given. Daniel worked hard and was noticeable on the forecheck a few times. On one forecheck he won the puck and then made a nice pass out for a scoring chance. He also had a partial breakaway himself one time but couldn’t get the shot off.
Artyom Gonchar (D, L, 6’1″, 167, Sudbury Wolves, 10/25/2006)
Game Rating
B+
Artem is a skilled defenseman who excels in both offense and defense. He is adept at joining rushes and maintaining possession of the puck, often going end-to-end on attacks. On the powerplay, he distributes the puck effectively and waits for opportunities to create scoring chances. During even-strength play, Artem has a strong shoot-first mentality, taking advantage of open lanes to get shots on net. His vision is good, allowing him to make smart passes and set up his teammates for scoring opportunities. However, his skating is somewhat rough, causing him to lose a step in footraces, as demonstrated by a recent instance where he was beaten for a loose puck.
1 Viewing
Comments: Artem’s skill and offensive style were on display again in this game. He is very shifty with the puck and likes to rush it anytime he has space. He helped create a goal by joining a rush, receiving a bump wide and then giving it back to the middle for a one-timer that foudn the back of the net, earning him an assist. He also scored a goal by finding space in front of the net and one-touching a pass out from below the goal line into the net. Artem was also very noticeable for his stand-up defensive style. He likes to make plays at the offensive blue line and at his own blue line to prevent rushes and zone entries with possession. He uses his body to step up and throw checks at opponents, often causing turnovers and shutting down plays early. Occasionally he tries to force passes that are not there and turns the puck over, one time doing so very dangerously on the breakout.

Comments: Nathan is a tough and speedy two-way center. He finished his checks well and backchecked relentlessly. He needs to make sure he keeps his emotions in check though as he took a very costly penalty in the offensive zone corner out of frustration. This penalty lead to a goal against on the penalty-kill. When he had the puck on his stick he used his speed to create chances. Nathan created a partial-breakaway by using his speed to get in behind the defenders and he also used his speed to push the pace through the middle and bump pucks wide. He had a couple of scoring chances in front of the net but was robbed by the goalie on one of them.

Comments: Vladimir showed his ability to make smart passes and create offensive chances. He scored the first goal of his OHL career in this game on a zone entry where he walked in and took a hard snap shot high glove side beating the goalie cleanly. He also recorded an assist with a good short pass out to the post for a tap-in goal. He made some other impressive passes in the offensive zone by having his head up and putting the puck into space for player to skate onto. One example of this was when he walked up the wall and then threaded the puck into space on the weakside for the D to step into and shoot. Vladimir has good speed on rushes and can push the pace of play.
