Comments: Zachary struggled early on in the game to control the puck but came up huge in the third period for his team and gave them the chance to win the game. In the first period he was unable to handle the puck cleanly, giving up big rebounds. He attempted to play the puck a few times but he passed it into pressure or couldn’t get it past the forecheckers. The goals were no fault of his own as they were very nice scoring plays. In the third period he faced many scoring chances against including a few on a 3v5 penalty-kill. He made an incredible glove save on a one-timer from the slot to keep the game even at 3-3. He showed good squareness to the puck, being in the right place and cutting down on shooting angles for the opponent. His ability to bounce back after a shaky start showed resilience and he ended up being an important factor in the win.
Rylan Singh (D, R, 6’0″, 176, Guelph Storm, 10/04/2007)

Comments: Rylan is a two-way defenseman who impacted the game every shift he was on the ice. He is very mobile and uses his good edges and quickness to his advantage on both sides of the puck. He is a shut-down defender, playing with a tight-gap and good stick in the neutral zone and stopping the opponents rushes before they can enter the zone. On the breakout he retrieves pucks and makes a good first pass, sometimes with a simple poke to a teammate and other times making a deceptive move and then moving the puck. He had one breakout retrieval where deceptively picked up the puck, took a step off of the wall, and then slipped the puck through the forecheckers triangle on his backhand to the winger. As the play moves up the ice Rylan moves his feet to be involved in the rushes. In the offensive zone he moves the puck well and will fake shots and then dive down into the zone. He quarterbacks the powerplay for his team.

Comments: Ethan is a crafty forward who creates scoring chances. He had two assists in this game with his smart puck movement. He helped create the first goal by making a nice cycle down into the corner to a teammate who then passed into the soft space for a goal. His second assist showed his high skill and craftiness. He was playing at the net front on the powerplay, slid off to the side of the net to receive a pass, spined and pulled it into the front of the net creating a loose puck for a teammate to score. He is also able to create chances on rushes because of his puck-handling ability, pulling the pucks into spaces where he can get shots off around the defensemen.

Comments: Noah played hero in the 4-3 win as he scored a late powerplay goal to secure the win for his team. He received the puck at the top of the umbrella, under-handled it, and took a hard wrister top-shelf beating the goalie glove-side. He also had an assist in the game with a quick D-D pass he made in the offensive zone. Although he factored into two of the goals and netted the game-winner he struggled with turnovers at times in the game. He made a dangerous turnover on a pass from the wall into the middle in the defensive zone. He also had a long breakout pass intercepted and another long breakout pass that failed to connect.

Comments: Leo scored the first goal of the game with a hard wrister after receiving a pass out in the soft space. He fired the puck past the goalie off the upper back bar. He had three other shots on net in the game, including a dangerous one from the slot after he cut into the middle on a zone entry. He is a shooting threat as he is able to receive pucks in all areas of his body and then rip the puck hard without taking any stickhandles. Leo also showed he can handle the puck and and is willing to try to beat defenders. He pulled the puck through the defenseman’s feet one time before making a nice pass into the middle.

Comments: Grant is a tall, strong defenseman who is tough along the walls and in front of his own net. He has a good stick and a long reach that allows him to disrupt plays and also be a go-to penalty-killer for his team. He was an important part of his teams success 3v5 kill and he killed significant minutes off of the clock by keeping the puck in the corner. He attempted a few nice, low shots that nearly went into the net. He had some trouble handling the puck on some retrievals which led to failed breakout attempts. He also did not pick up the net-driver on a rush, allowing the player to get an inside lane on him, receiving the puck and scoring.

He registered two assists in this game, the first one on a nice pass out to the soft space after getting into the corner quickly to retrieve a cycle. His other assist came on the powerplay where he passed from his flank position down to an open player on the side of the net. Comments: Illia uses his speed and strong work ethic to win lines to pucks and forecheck hard. He gets a step on defenders and then cuts in front of them to win pucks. He also has some shiftiness of hands and feet that he uses to get through traffic. He had a very hard hit in the neutral zone and always seems willing to use his body to separate people from the puck and to win inside position on the puck. Illia has the skill and offensive ability to play on the flank of the second powerplay unit. On the game winning goal he provided a great screen, taking away the goalie’s eyes, and allowing the puck to sail into the upper corner uncontested.
Brayden Krawczyk (C, L, 6’2″, 187, Ottawa 67s, 02/14/2008, UMass Amherst)

Comments: Brayden creates chances by going to the net hard and battling through pressure. He is tough and battles through checks well, taking hits to make plays and then quickly finding his balance and resuming pressure. He took one hard hit in the neutral zone that knocked him over but very quickly got to his feet and disrupted the forecheck. He scored his first OHL goal by driving the net hard and getting inside position on a defender to tap a centering pass through the goalie’s legs. Brayden also moves the puck well and he made some great passes into space to create scoring chances. He made a nice feed into space from the neutral zone that sent his teammate in on a breakaway. He finished the game with an excellent scoring chance in the slot that he just couldn’t get on net. He had five shots on net in this game and showed a willingness to win pucks and take quick shots in transition.

Comments: Nic had a slow start to the game but found his stride in the 3rd period. He is a skilled, playmaking forward who moves the puck smartly and sees dangerous lanes. He made some nice looks on rush opportunities, identifying open options and dishing the puck on both his forehand and backhand to open teammates. He used a wide variety of options including dropping pucks to trailers, driving wide and shooting, and making great feeds to the middle-lane driver. In the third period Nic created multiple scoring chances by passing pucks into the slot. He plays a role on the powerplay because of his strong puck-handling and passing abilities.

Comments: Jack is a speedy winger who forechecks hard and drives the pace of the play through the neutral zone. When he has space he drives wide around defenders and has straight-line speed to separate from them. When he doesn’t have space or numbers to attack with he dumps the puck in and tries to win footraces to the loose puck. He also pushes the pace of the game with his ability to headman the puck with his feet moving. He draws people to him and then head-mans the puck to open teammates, sometimes creating breakaways or odd-man rushes.

Comments: Kohyn is a skilled, puck-moving defenseman who controls the play from the back. He makes deceptive passes and hinge plays with his partner to open up space on the regroup. He makes passes with his head up and often makes ‘no-look’ passes to be deceptive. He is very dynamic and will make escape moves all over the ice to buy time and space, using his good edges to evade forecheckers. He made some nice escapes on the regroup and also had one the offensive zone blue line where he escaped and then dove down into the zone with the puck. He had another play where he dove down into the offensive zone and he made a hook pass behind the feet of the defenseman to center the puck to a teammate. Kohyn had an assist in the game on a quick transition regroup pass he made. He quarterbacks the powerplay for his team, using his deceptive passing ability to distribute the puck, and also taking his opportunities to shoot low to try to create chances for his teammates in front.

Comments: Jasper opened up the scoring for Ottawa with a goal on a rush, attempting a centering pass to the net-driver and then putting in the loose puck on the backdoor. He had a couple of other scoring chances in the game, including one on a 5v3 powerplay late in the 3rd period. He took a hard one-timer from the slot but was robbed by the goalie with an incredible glove save. He was also noticeable on some forechecks, moving his feet and going hard into the corners.

Comments: Cooper is a skilled and patient play-making center. He is always scanning the ice and likes to slow the play down to search for good passing opportunities. He pulls up on rushes and dishes pucks into the middle and to trailers. He will also execute some bump and drive plays, using his good recognition of pressure to bump the puck right before pressure. Cooper had an assist in the game on a skilled, heads-up play he made in the offensive zone. He received the puck inside the dot lane from the boards and then quickly moved it across the royal road to an open teammate giving the goalie no chance to get across in time.
Filip Ekberg (LW, L, 5’10”, 172, Ottawa 67s, 04/14/2007)

Comments: Filip is a hard-working winger who applies good pressure on the forecheck. He fights hard to make plays, making one nice zone entry pass from his knees. Instead of giving up on the play he took a look across the ice and hit the far trailer before getting back to his feet. He sees the weak-side of the ice both in-zone and on rushes making him dangerous offensively. He had an assist in the game by making a nice pass off of the wall into the middle. He has some strength and can protect the puck well.
