Sam Hillebrandt | Barrie Colts | OHL | L | G | 6’0″ | 168 | Barrie Colts | 2022 | Riverview, MI | 2005 | Not yet rated |
Game Grade: B+
Comments: Hillebrandt stopped 37 of 40 shots with the three goals all beating him high to the glove side. The first came on a zone entry as the left shot goal scorer came down his off wing right dot-lane and cut high through the house to fire a quick release snapshot through a screen an back against the grain. The second came on a left to right royal road one-timer (Coby Barlow) 5 on 4 power play. The shot was well placed bullet that Hillebrandt did not have much of a chance on. The third was on a well executed 3 on 2 line rush and through a partial screen due to a hard middle drive but again the snapshot beat him to the glove side. Overall he faced 44 shot attempts from inside the house with 23 of those hitting the net and 3 going in.
Jack Brauti | Barrie Colts | OHL | L | D | 6’0″ | 168 | Barrie Colts | 2023 | Thornhill, ON | 2006 | Not yet rated |
Game Grade: B+
Comments: Brauti earned 21:43 in ice time (3rd among D) including 2:43 on the PK (3rd among D). He did not play PP. He finished +2 with 2 shots, 2 hits, received 1 hit, had 2 shots blocked, 4 giveaways, 8 takeaways and for the season he is winning 58% of his 50/50 puck battles. Brauti is an undersized mobile left shot defender with good edge control and the combination of a sound skating posture and strength to accelerate out of power turn while an opponent is leaning on him. He showed the confidence in his feet to set his gaps early and had the timing to step up for a hit when his opponent was looking down to settle a bouncing puck. In defensive transition he understood the importance of using the lines to his advantage to force hurried decisions that led to turnovers. Overall he played a very steady high percentage game but he did have two point shots blocked. The first glance off a shinpad to into the right corner and Barrie maintained offensive zone time. The second was a bit concerning as it came after his center won an offensive zone face-off and he fired a snapshot directly off the shinpads in front of him. The puck left the offensive zone with Barrie be forced to attempt a counter attack from their blueline.
Riley Patterson | Barrie Colts | OHL | R | C | 6’0″ | 192 | Flint Firebirds | 2022 | Etobicoke, ON | 2006 | 2023-2024: C |
Game Grade: C+
Comments: Patterson earned 17:26 in ice time (4th among fwds) including 2:49 on the PK (3rd among fwds). He did not play on the PP. He finished +1 with 3 shots, 2 grade ‘A’ opportunities, 4/9 on face-offs, received 2 hits, had 1 shot blocked, 6 giveaways, 2 takeaways and for the season he is winning 44% of his 50/50 puck battles. Patterson is an undersized right shot center who although showed a narrow stiff hipped upright skating base never got caught from behind and was able to beat defenders wide beating them to the far post. In all three zones we liked his body awareness and his ability to keep his eyes up while protecting the puck along the walls and then moving the puck to am open teammate. Offensively Patterson showed the ability to shoot the puck through a screen while his feet were moving and we liked how he drove the net looking for rebounds after he or his teammates shot the puck. Defensively he stayed on the net side of the puck and he did not just follow the pass leaving easy access to his net. As a penalty killer he showed nice puck anticipation and seemed to be aware of Owen Sound’s game plan of getting the puck to Barlow.
Noah Smith | Barrie Colts | OHL | R | D | 6’2″ | 172 | Barrie Colts | 2022 | Port Perry, ON | 2006 | Not yet rated |
Did not dress.
Cole Beaudoin | Barrie Colts | OHL | L | C | 6’2″ | 209 | Barrie Colts | 2022 | Kanata, ON | 2006 | 2023-2024: B |
Game Grade: B+
Comments: Beaudoin earned 17:57 in ice time (2nd among fwds) including 2:21 on the PK (5th among fwds). He did not play PP. He finished +1 with 1 secondary assist, 4 shots, 2 grade ‘A’ opportunities, 10/16 on face-offs, 1 hit, 7 giveaways, 5 takeaways and for the season he is winning 47% of his 50/50 puck battles. Beaudoin is a direct straight forward left shot center with above average straight line speed and surprising lateral agility for a 6’2′, 210 lbs 2006. Offensively he used his size and strength to bull his way to the net. We liked how there were times when he took an extra second to take a look and then made a hard flat pass. He picked up a secondary assist on Barrie’s forth goal but the entire play was made by Beaudoin as he drove wide past the defender and found an open teammate in the left dot-lane. For the professional game there is a lot to like about his size, straight line skating ability and willingness to get to the dirty areas.
Bode Stewart | Barrie Colts | OHL | L | C | 6’0″ | 167 | Saginaw Spirit | 2021 | Oakville, ON | 2006 | 2023-2024: C |
Game Grade: B-
Comments: Stewart earned 17:18 in ice time (5th among fwds) including 2:03 on the PK (6th among fwds). He did not play PP. He finished +2 with 1 assist, 3 shots, 2 grade ‘A’ opportunities, received 2 hits, 8 giveaways, 4 takeaways and for the season he is winning 44% of his 50/50 puck battles. Stewart is a slightly undersized left shot forward with a shoulder width skating base and shoulder width glide. He showed very good straight line speed and even turned a breakout pass into a partial breakaway after he blew by the opposing defensemen. On offensive zone entries he did a nice job of recognizing which lane to fill and to be at a different pace than the puck carrier. He had the primary assist on the Colts sixth goal of the game after coolly settling a bouncing puck in the neutral zone and then hitting his streaking teammate for a breakaway between the defensemen. His skating and ability to change gears is a real asset that he can use to be impactful on both sides of the puck.
Shamar Moses | Barrie Colts | OHL | R | RW | 6’1″ | 212 | Barrie Colts | 2023 | Scarborough, ON | 2007 | 2024-2025: B+ |
Game Grade: C+
Comments: Moses earned 8:34 in ice time (13th among fwds). He did not play on special teams. He finished +1 with 1 assist, 1 shot, 1 grade ‘A’ opportunity, 1 hit, 2 giveaways, 2 takeaways and for the season he is winning 47% of his 50/50 puck battles. Moses is a big strong 2007 who showed good straight line speed. In both offensive and defensive transition there were times that he got caught flat footed but standing at 6’1′, 212 lbs we expect that to change as he continues to grow into himself adding strength and explosiveness. He showed a nice catch and release snapshot in the second after caught a hard pass from his left and fired a 12′ snap shot off the far pad without needing to stick handle before releasing it. In general Moses is a 2007 who has 20 points in 40 games and is a young power forward to watch.
Jaiden Newton | Barrie Colts | OHL | L | C | 5’11” | 168 | Barrie Colts | 2023 | Whitby, ON | 2007 |
Game Grade: B-
Comments: Newton earned 9:08 in total ice time (11th among fwds). He did not play special teams. He finished +1 with 1 goal, 2 shots, 2 grade ‘A’ opportunities, 6/9 on face-offs, 1 hit, 1 giveaway, 5 takeaways and for the season he is winning 53% of his 50/50 puck battles. The October 2007 is light on his feet with a very easy glide, meaning it only takes one stride to get him to top speed. In the defensive zone he did a nice job as the low forward by sorting out scissors and potential picks very quickly and it was easy to see him communicating with his defensemen. Newton also showed surprising strength by pinning his man to the walls and when he he needed to to he used his inside edges to box out keeping the shooting lanes clear. In the offensive zone he used that same mentality to box out around the opponent’s net as this allowed him to score his goal by establishing his ice early so the opposing defender could not move him and he tipped in the point shot on Barrie’s third goal of the game. Newton was a constant presence around the net darting for loose pucks to keep the play alive. His strength, easy glide and October birthday makes him a player to track closely through the next few seasons leading up to the 2026 draft.
Carter Lowe | Barrie Colts | OHL | L | LW | 6’3″ | 203 | Barrie Colts | 2022 | Toronto, ON | 2006 | 2023-2024: C |
Game Grade: C
Comments: Lowe earned 9:03 in ice time (12th among fwds) including 0:48 on the PK (7th among fwds). He did not play PP. He finished +1 with 1 shot, 0/1 on face-offs, 4 giveaways, 0 takeaways and for the season he is winning 48% of his 50/50 puck battles. Lowe has an NHL frame and skating posture but he is still learning how to use his frame to his advantage. His stride has a but a of a heel kick and there are times that he looks uncertain on his outside edges but we feel his skating posture will allow him to be faster and more explosive as he gains strength. In the second period he showed a glimpse of what he can be after he received a pass in his defensive zone and then used his speed to back the opposing defender off the line allowing Lowe to take shot from high in the zone. As he continues to grow into himself we feel he is a big young thick player with professional upside who will benefit from adding strength and some bite to his game.
Evan Passmore | Barrie Colts | OHL | R | D | 6’4″ | 198 | Barrie Colts | 2022 | Elmira, ON | 2006 | 2024-2025: C+ |
Game Grade: B
Comments: Passmore earned 15:19 in ice time (4th among D). He did not play special teams. he finished +2 with 4 PIMs (he forced a net driving winger into the strong side post and an interference while setting a pick for his partner), 1 hit, receive 1 hit, had 1 shot blocked, 5 giveaways, 4 takeaways and for the season he is winning 47% of his 50/50 puck battles. Passmore is a hulking right shot December 2006 with a deep knee’d chest high skating posture and a knack for making body contact that knocks his opponents off their feet. We would like to see him trust his feet a bit more as here were a few times when he left the offensive blue line a little early but he played with a hidden poke check and forced his opponents to make decisions in the neutral zone. In the defensive zone he established his ice early keeping shooting lanes clear and, again, showed the strength to knock opponents on their backside when they tried to be a screen. Offensively he looked to move the puck as quickly as possible and seemed to know that the walls were his friend. Passmore did have one shot blocked that deflected off a stick and into the crowd.
