Game played on 10/17/2024.
General Game Notes: Total domination from the visiting team, especially in the third period. Baie-Comeau outshot the local team Blainville-Boisbriand 33-24 and they won the game by a score of 4-1. They distributed more hits and were successful on special units as well. Their best players and their goalie were better than the Armada one’s. Scout: Marco Lavigne
Lucas Beckman (G, L, 6’2″, 182, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, 08/23/2007)
Grade: B+
Comments: Great game form this good size goalie, at close to 6’2” and 185 lbs. Strong glove catch, left-side, on the second shot who set the tone, he was in his zone. He was square to the puck all game and it seemed easy all game long. He was like a sponge by controlling, actually almost did not allow one, rebounds. Beckman made a couple of key pads save in the second, he was quick and effective with his legs. Lucas was alert all night, even when the game was easier in the third, he is very agile with his blades outside of his crease, he is fluid. Great progression since last year where he joined the QM at Xmas break, started in the LHM18AAAQ. A very interesting learning curve to watch for.
Alexis Mathieu (D, L, 6’3″, 175, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, 05/25/2007)
Grade: C+
Comments: Very tall defender who did stand out due to his superior size and his skating fluidity, his decision-making skills are usually on par. However, he lacks strength and grit as seen in the first where he made a smart pinch but were too soft to win the puck battle. His feet agility is something he could work on, his pivots are not super quick and crisp. Delivery of his passes are often sub-optimal, like the one behind hi player at the end of the first during a break-out. Later in the game, he also delivered unprecised passes, twice on the same shift. Mathieu was able to deliver two good shots on net later in the game, in the third period. ‘Suspect’ to watch as he has some key attributes but must work on few key tools to be attractive for a team.
Justin Carbonneau (RW, R, 6’1″, 188, Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, 11/25/2006)
Grade: C+
Comments: Carbonneau’s top quality is definitely his elite level shot, in all situations like his one-timer in the second and on the move at the end of the third. Justin is a good-size right winger, an interesting ’06L, who took a bad penalty in the third that lead to goal (6 vs 4 on delayed call), his hooking was probably due to a bad positioning defensively. Lots of tools in his toolkit, critical year for this prospect.
Mateo Nobert (C, L, 6’0″, 166, Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, 08/12/2007)
Grade: C+
Comments: Mateo did unfortunately stand out for the wrong reasons tonight, the intensity of the Drakkar exposed his pure physical strength (or lack of) flaws. Defensively, he was fighting with the blade of his stick versus going there with his full body and with conviction, he was often falling when pushed. He has a stellar vision in neutral zone and on Power Play situations but he needs to be less fancy and puck some pucks on net versus deeking ‘for nothing’ like we saw in the first period, sometime keeping it simple could be very efficient. Lots of offensive ceiling with this guy, a prospect to follow to see if he will bring his game even further through the season. Robert must get stronger and put time in the gym.
Xavier Villeneuve (D, L, 5’9″, 146, Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, 09/29/2007)
Grade: C+
Comments: His confidence level is to the roof but he needs to be careful on that aspect, he must be always ‘on’. A perfect example of that is when he makes a stellar pass, like in the first on one of his first shifts, he needs to stay in the game and offer himself as an option versus slowing down and looking everywhere, that ultimately resulted in a turn-over. Another example, when rushing offensively, which he does really well most of the time, if it does not go as planned, he needs to come back super rapidly versus floating and allowing a 3 vs 1 like we noted in the third period. Another example of that super high confidence is his overall demeanor on the ice when skating back to the bench loosely, his helmet on the top of his head, his visor on his forehead, his body language, his smile, etc….must be careful as some veterans could get sick of that and decide to get a message across by hitting him badly and get on his case. Defensively, despite his small stature, his stick is very efficacious and deceiving. Villeneuve has the time to develop since he is a late ’07 and not eligible for this year’s draft, a very interesting potential to track.
