Game played on 11/10/2024.
Lucas Beckman (G, L, 6’2″, 182, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, 08/23/2007)
Grade: A
Comments: Beckman was outstanding vs the Wildcats, He’s extremely solid technically, and very square to the shooter, He plays deep in his net, which is good and all, but I would like to see him challenge more, however moves very well laterally, There’s no question he will have to get a touch quicker to reach full potential at the next level, Very solid downlow and has good rebound control, Great glove, great compete and battle in there as well, Beckman has tons of potential, Obviously, at 6’2 some scouts might think he’s still too small, but he has a tremendous base and foundation in which to work. He needs to get stronger which will help his quickness and movements, I would like to see him challenge more, because his recovery is very good, he does fight for space from perimeter shots very well, but that’s one area that he will have to continue to improve if he wants to make an impact at the pro game. Beckman is arguably the best draft eligible netiminder I have seen in the past two seasons. He has the ability to steal games at the Q level and with more experience he could do the exact same at the next level.
Drew Allison (D, L, 6’2″, 186, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, 07/04/2007)
Grade: B+
Comments: Strong skating defender that can play both sides of the ice, good gap control and puck mover, good puck skills, projects to be a solid two and half zone transitional defender at the next level if he continues to progress and get a touch stronger and more assertive defensively. Allison possesses good offensive instincts, processes the game and position very well and knows when to pick and choose his spots, Allison needs to get stronger upper body wise to win battles below the dots at the next level. He defends well, needs to add a little grit and edge to his overall game, but the kid didn’t back down yesterday, At times he just needs to be a touch more assertive. He’s a smooth operator, but like most D that possess that style of play, some people would think they would hesitate or look too passive, this isn’t the case at all with Allison. He has a solid shot from the point and distributes pucks well in all three zones, tons of potential here, Very smart player, highly effective transitional defender that contribute in all three zones, He’s not going to get a ton of points, but he definitely has all of the tools to bring more offensive presence to the Drakkar lineup. With time and experience he could easily find his way on the 2nd unit power play
Alexis Mathieu (D, L, 6’3″, 175, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, 05/25/2007)
Grade: C+
Comments: Solid two-way defender, skates well for his size, above average puck skills, needs to get a step quicker and more engaged if he wants to reach his full potential at the next level. Defends well, needs to be more assertive and physically engaged below the dots, active stick, just needs more grit and intensity. Processes the game well, and makes the subtle plays efficiently, Definitely a player to watch moving forward to see if he progresses and continues to work on areas of his game that needs refinement.
Mattias Gilbert (D, R, 6’5″, 216, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, 01/31/2006)
Grade: B
Comments: Very difficult ending to a pretty solid night, he got outmanned and stripped of the puck downlow at the side of the net for the game winner, this kid logged big minutes in 3 in 4 road trip, excuses aside, Gilbert played quite well, he does need to work on his lateral movement and agility, but skates very well for his size. Plays with intensity and grit, thinks the game well, active stick, needs to close in and use his stick more effectively below the dots while defending, good first pass, reads the play well and solid gap control, again needs to get stronger upper body wise to impose his will on players, needs to get a step quicker and more explosive which will definitely help his overall game, 6’6 D man take time to develop, with more reps and experience Gilbert could bloom into a highly effective shutdown nasty two-zone defender.
Jabez Seymour (LW, R, 6’3″, 192, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, 07/27/2007)
Grade: B+
Comments: Prototypical power forward in the making, good skater for his size, Quite agile for his size, but like all forwards 6’3 and above, skating and mobility is the key to success. Seymour possesses great puck skills, he’s calm and composed in traffic and extremely effective on the forecheck, This kid could be a dynamic force at the Q level and beyond if he gets a ½ step quicker and more explosive, Seymour has a pro release, drives the net incredible well, creates time and space for himself and teammates, Plays with a ton of grit and on the edge, good stick and is responsible in his own zone, His board play jumped off the page last night, there’s no panic in his game while he has the puck in that area in all three zones, He does have great hands in tight.
Oliver Samson (D, L, 6’4″, 181, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, 02/09/2005)
Grade: B+
Comments: highly effective two-way defender, Full two and a half zone defender, strong skater and has great poise with and without the puck, defends very well, needs to be more nastier at times especially below the dots, very good pivots and outstanding gap control, processes the game and position very well, solid puck skills and is effective walking the line at the offensive blueline, logged massive minutes in all situations, needs to get a touch stronger upper body wise to reach his full potential at the next level, he has a hidden gear as well, deceptively efficient defender.
Louis-Charles Plourde (C, L, 6’1″, 198, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, 04/01/2005)
Grade: B+
Comments: Had another game vs Moncton, he was exceptional during the playoff series against Moncton not last year but the year before. This is what I wrote during that playoff series and he’s only gotten better since then, Here’s my final scouting report from 2023 on Louis Charles. Gritty hardnosed winger, great two-way presence, strong skater, good with the puck in traffic, great on the forecheck, active stick in all three zones, north-south type of player, can play in any situation, good net front presence, heart and soul energy type player, needs to get a touch quicker and work on his agility, but he could definitely play at the pro level based on the intangibles he brings and his will to compete. Definitely a sleeper pick here, but tons of potential and I think you’re see his offensive climb in the next few seasons, good quick release as well, Plourde is now logging minutes on the top line and he’s even more effective in that role, he’s the ultimate energy player and doesn’t backdown from anything out there, here’s a perfect example of kid that might go undrafted and get signed and people will wonder why no one drafted him or took a chance, critics will say he doesn’t skate well enough, but his skating has vastly improved and is only getting better.
