Comments: SKATING: Skating 4 strong skater with great agility and edge work, has really taken a big step in this areas, lacks separation speed, but thinks the game well enough to get to the right spots on the ice PASSING: Pass 4 great vision and technique, needed to be more assertive in this area a season ago and has really taken strides in this area of his game this season SHOOTING: 3.5 Here’s one area of his game that needs to continue to work on, he needs to generate even more opportunities to shoot the puck for himself, but with his increased speed those chances will come PUCK HANDLING: PHand 3.5 Very shifty, comfortable and composed in traffic, his agility and vision were there last season, but now he has the ability to generate even more chances off the rush and distribute puck to his teammates at the right time and spaces DEFENSE: D 3.75 Very reliable two way center who thinks the game incredibly well on both sides of the puck SIZE/STRENGTH: Size/Str 3.25 Provencher’s size has and will continue to be the one draw back especially in the scouting fraternity, but it’s evident he’s worked very hard on improving certain specific areas of his game, COMPETITIVENESS: Compet 3.75 Provencher has always competed like hell, but he will have to continue to work on that area of his game if he wants to play at the next level HOCKEY IQ: IQ 4 Great to see his skating ability catch up with how processes the game especially from a playing making perspective OVERALL COMMENTS: Player Type: Two-way center who competes hard on pucks, skilled in traffic and good puck distributor through the middle Projection: At 5’11 pro teams might be hesitate to draft and play him through the middle, but here’s a player that has really taken a step in his development, Has the ability to play NCAA Division 1 and will be a very effective minor pro Strong skating center, could skate for days, great two way presence, very good in the dot, thinks the game at a very high level and now does everything at top speed, Unrelenting type of player, never gives up on the play, this kid really wants the puck

Player Type: Cerebral Forward

Comments: DEFENSE: OVERALL COMMENTS: Player Type: Speedy skilled forward with great hockey sense and passing ability, no hesitation and panic in this kid’s game, moves the puck incredibly well, can really rip the puck, it’s hard and very accurate, Always on his toes, and always in the middle of the ice whether trying to generate offence or distributing the puck, Natural winger, but wouldn’t be surprised to see a team try to put him through the middle based on his skating and passing ability. Projection: NCAA Division 1 two-way center, possesses pro potential and projects to be a solid middle six forward with offensive upside

Ryan Jewer (D, R, 6’6″, 214, Charlottetown Islanders, 12/24/2009)

Size/Strength: 4.0

Compete: 4.0

IQ: 3.75

Upside/Projection: Minor Pro

Player Type: Two-Way Defenseman

Comments: SKATING: Skating 4 moves very well for his size and age on the backend, needs even more agility to play and have an impact at the pro level PASSING: Pass 3.75 very good first pass and willing to take a hit to make a play, jumped into the play when needed, but I would like to see him be even more assertive when he has the puck on his stick especially in transition PUCK HANDLING: PHand very good puck skills in open ice and controlled it well when pressured, creates a lot of time and space with his skills, but will need to become even more efficient to play and transition pucks at the pro level DEFENSE: D Very impressed with his overall two way game, but especially his angles and the way he contained things in his own zone, didn’t get beat to pucks and was quick to close in on opponents SIZE/STRENGTH: Size/Str Here’s a very young defender with a ton of pro potential based on his stature and ability, it’s going to be interesting to see his progression especially if he continues to put the time in on his skating and brings even more physicality COMPETITIVENESS: Compete Excellent compete level and wasn’t’ shy, he’s not a bruiser or in your face nasty 6’5 defender, but he’s definitely capable of it especially if he works on his agility and gets even more comfortable throwing the body around HOCKEY IQ: IQ 3.75 very impressed with the way he processed the game, keep everything in front of him and kept things very simple and calculated, didn’t rush things back there, but was assertive when needed OVERALL COMMENTS: Player Type: Very good skater for his age and size, good puck skills and awareness for the position and game, will have to continue to work on his agility and mobility to reach his full potential at the Jr level and beyond, but this kid has a great foundation in which to build, definitely projects to be a nasty shutdown 5/6 two-zone D-man at the Q level and beyond. Projection: Here’s a player that just needs time and reps, he’s going to get a ton of those on a very young backend on the Island, As all the makings of a potential shutdown two zone, nasty in your face type of defender with a ton of pro potential

Nathan Frost (D, L, 6’1″, 198, Charlottetown Islanders, 04/09/2010)

Game Rating: A-

Skating: 4.0

Passing: 3.75

Puck Handling: 3.75

Defense: 3.75

Size/Strength: 3.5

Compete: 3.75

IQ: 4.0

Upside/Projection: Minor Pro

Player Type: Cerebral Defenseman

Comments: OVERALL COMMENTS: Player Type Very smooth operator on the backend, doesn’t rush with the puck, this kid has ice in his veins when it comes to handling the puck in all three zones, great puck skills, and he’s a transitional that can really lug the puck and pass whatever the situation calls for, He’s eager to jump into the play, but picks and chooses his spots very well, and has really good gap control, Frost has the potential to be a full three zone defender in the Q and doesn’t mind the physicality of the game or position which is great to see with such a skilled defender, I would like to maintain his spine angle or posture a touch more often especially when playing one on ones where the forward is attacking with speed to the outside, This kid gets it, plays with his head up engages and plays with some jam in all the right scenarios and can skate for days, There’s no question he has a ton of potential and is ready to play an even bigger role with the Islanders this season he just needs some veteran insulation on the right side and this kid could play and impact, here’s a perfect example of a kid that simply jumps off the screen two shifts in and a player that you want to keep watching, Clearly every young D man can work on their skating and get stronger, but not too many play the game and position as well as Frost does! Projection: Tons of pro potential with this player, needs to continue to work and refine certain areas of his game to reach his full potential, Could definitely see him playing a couple years of NCAA before becoming a transitional two and a half defender in the pro ranks.

Defense: 3.5

Size/Strength: 3.5

Compete: 3.5

IQ: 3.75

Upside/Projection: Minor Pro

Player Type: Two-Way Forward

Comments: OVERALL COMMENTS: Player Type: Strong skating forward, very aggressive on the forecheck, has the potential to be a solid two way forward, needs to stop on pucks in his own zone with more regularity and engage more on the defensive side of things, Great puck skills and can really create in open ice, good in traffic and can really pass the puck in high traffic areas, does everything at top speed, but will need to get even stronger in hopes of playing pro hockey, Needs to get to the middle even more, but that will come with more reps and experience Projection: Reliable two way forward, with improved edge control and even more speed will be a NCAA Division 1 player and has minor pro potential.

Kimani (KJ) Eccleston (C, L, 6’4″, 202, Charlottetown Islanders, 08/01/2007, Union)

Shot: 3.75

Puck Handling: 3.5

Defense: 3.75

Size/Strength: 4.0

Compete: 4.0

IQ: 3.75

Upside/Projection: Minor Pro

Player Type: Two-Way Forward

Comments: SKATING: Skating 3.75 Not the most fluent stride, but naturally fast and very agile, incredibly difficult to knock off the puck which speaks for kids compete and athleticism, COMPETITIVENESS: Competitiveness off the charts, this kid was all over it all night long and rarely lost one on one puck battles in all three zones. HOCKEY IQ: IQ Thinks the game and the wing position very well, again this kid is all over the ice and engaged, he’s wreaks havoc and really difficult to play against. Very good vision and passing ability, always in the fight and unrelenting when it comes to foot races and one on one battles OVERALL COMMENTS: Player Type: Eccleston is the type of player that is ready for anything that comes his way and is coaches dream when it comes to compete level, grit and situational play, Prototypical grinder with a ton of offensive instinct and defensive accountability. Obviously, his skating will need to improve especially his agility and explosiveness to continue to have an impact at the Q level, but here’s a perfect example of a late bloomer that just needed a chance to show what he can do, Projection: At 6’4, if his skating improves and he becomes better in high traffic areas, he could be a player that makes a lot of noise in years to come.

Jiko Laitinen (C, L, 6’0″, 166, Moncton Wildcats, 04/16/2008)

Game Rating: B+

Passing: 4.0

Puck handling: 3.75

Defense: 3.5

Size/Strength: 3.0

Compete: 3.75

IQ: 4.0

Upside/Projection: Minor Pro

Player Type: Two-Way Forward

Comments: SKATING: Skating 4 very smooth and agile, will need to gain strength to increase speed, very deceptive player, just needs more time to adapt and when does he’s going to excel PASSING: Pass 4 excellent passer and playmaker, just needs to be more assertive and get to the middle with more frequency which again will come with time PUCK HANDLING: Very good and comfortable in traffic handling the puck, but has to continue to get to the middle to create opportunities for himself and linemates SIZE/STRENGTH: Very slight, definitely needs to gain more muscle especially upper body wise if he want to play pro hockey COMPETITIVENESS: Very good competitor, needs to be harder on pucks, but that to will come with time and an adjustment to the league, Very reliable two way presence, HOCKEY IQ: IQ 4 Thinks the game and position incredibly well, just a matter of time before he starts putting points up, Thinks the game so well, just needs to play with more pace and that will come with more reps especially in G. MacDougall’s system, this kid will be playing in every situation imaginable by the end of the year OVERALL COMMENTS: Player Type/Projection Reliable two way center who creates opportunities with his smarts and skills, here’s a player that will be a go to, impact center by seasons end for the Wildcats, and will start to produce offensive number very soon. Projection: NCAA Division 1 player all day long, but just needs to get stronger and play with even more grit and pace if he wants to play pro hockey.

Jake Boguniecki (D, R, 6’2″, 191, Moncton Wildcats, 04/22/2009, Boston College)

Game Rating: B+

Skating: 3.75

Passing: 3.75

Shot: 3.5

Puck handling: 3.75

Defense: 3.75

Size/Strength: 3.75

Compete: 4.0

IQ: 3.75

Upside/Projection: Minor Pro

Player Type: Two-Way Defenseman

Comments: SKATING: Skating 3.75 very solid skater for his size, will have to continue to work on his lateral mobility and agility to reach his full potential at the next level PASSING: Pass 3.75 solid first pass and good vision, again, it’s all about picking his spots and not forcing things. PUCK HANDLING: PHand 3.5 good puck skills and solid in traffic, again more patience at times especially heading up ice might create better options for him to take, He’s very effective and isn’t scared to jump into the play, but he has to find and solidify his identity at this level and I think once he refines that he’s going to be impact transitional 2 1/2 zone defender for the Cats DEFENSE: D 3.75 Very good in the defensive zone, an increase in his agility will help him close in and eliminate offensive opportunities from would be attackers coming out of the corner or below the dot SIZE/STRENGTH: Size/Strength 3.75 this kid has a great frame in which to build, but his speed, agility and lateral mobility will dictate his path within the game. There’s no question he possesses pro potential, it’s just a matter of him refining that and continuing to build on it COMPETITIVENESS: Compet 4 This kid doesn’t back down from anything and is willing to go through the boards to help his team win which is great to see, but again a less is more approach might serve him better moving forward OVERALL COMMENTS: Player Type/Projection At the Major Junior level, Boguniecki has the capacity to turn into a full two and half zone defender, but as he progresses through the game into the college and pro ranks he will be a player that will be called upon to play a more defensive in your face gritty game, With more time and reps in the Q this kid will refine his role and identity. Given the Cats backend Boguniecki will be called upon to play varying roles and massive minutes which will only serve him better moving forward.
