QMJHL: Charlottetown (5) at Shawinigan (2)

11/29/2024.

Simon Hughes (LW, L, 6’2″, 205, Charlottetown Islanders, 01/16/2004)

Grade: B

Comments: Simon is a gritty two-way forward, strong skater, plays a mean in your face style of game and is tough to play against. When Hughes is at his best he brings a lot of energy play, solid puck skills and is good in traffic. He has a hard accurate release, he definitely has a ton of offensive upside and can really fire the puck. For Simon to continue to advance he needs to work on his consistency and being engaged in all three zones He has good hockey sense and thinks the game very well, he is a reliable two-way presence and can play in any situation, he just needs to be more consistent to be more impactful.

Thomas Sirman (D, L, 5’10”, 185, Charlottetown Islanders, 03/05/2004)

Grade: B

Comments: A recent arrival from Ottawa of the OHL. Simon is a solid two and half zone transitional defender, excellent skater, defends very well and has a great active stick downlow. He is a hardnosed defender, tough to play against and takes a lot of pride in playing the game and position the right way. Obviously Thomas is not an offensive driver who is going to light the world on fire offensively, but he thinks the game very well, has great instincts to jump into and support the rush when needed, and very good gap control. He is very cerebral when it comes to the game, high hockey IQ, making great decisions when it comes to pinching and very composed with the puck on the offensive blueline. He is the type of player that can skate for days, possesses a great compete level and definitely a calming factor for the Isles backend

Antoine Michaud (D, R, 6’0″, 202, Shawnigan Cataractes, 03/24/2004)

Grade: B

Comments: Antoine is a highly engaged defenseman who works hard to maintain possession and create turnovers through his aggressive checking. In the defensive zone. He consistently stays in front of the puck and makes it difficult for opponents to gain ground. He does an excellent job of standing his man up in the neutral zone, disrupting the opposition’s offensive flow. Antoine’s quick feet allow him to get back into position swiftly, preventing odd-man rushes. Positionally sound throughout, he made several key blocks late in the game. While not primarily an offensive defenseman, he has solid puck skills and skating ability, contributing effectively to his team’s defensive game.
