Samuel Oliver | Charlottetown Islanders | QMJHL | L | C | 5’11” | 179 | Charlottetown Islanders | 2020 | Quispamsis, NB | 2004 | 2021-2022: C+ |
Oliver is an averaged sized forward with a huge heart and high compete. He shows very good game awareness while pursuing loose pucks by consistently cutting the ice in half or forcing his opponent to their backhand. The left shot is very effective when driving hard down his off wing, using his speed to gain the wide ice on the opposing defenseman, then dipping his shoulder behind the defenseman and charging hard to the far post. Below the offensive zone goal line he shows the awareness to take his opponent’s ice or pick while cycling and working a give ad go with his linemates. We’ve noted that Oliver has very good hand eye coordination and has the quick stick to deflect point shots and to knock down cross ice passes in the neutral zone. Oliver may not receive a lot of penalty kill time with Charlottetown (0:06 per-game), but we feel his quickness, high compete and hand eye coordination make him a potential killer at higher levels. Game in and game out he plays a fearless game and looks like he is a player who will sacrifice his body to block or take a hit to make a play.
U16: Monctonian AAA Challenge, January 2, 2020: Oliver is a young forward with great straight-line speed who keeps his feet moving. He drew a penalty in the second period. Because of his speed he is good on the rush and possesses a hard wrist shot that he rang off the cross bar in the game viewed. Needs to keep working on his edges to help him stay with players defensively. Put up 4pts in 3 games in the round robin. GRADE: B
U15: MPHL Showcase, November 21, 2019: Oliver is one of the more impressive forwards in the tournament; an MP2004 with considerable sense and hockey IQ. He showed a quick release snap shot, smooth hands and composure with the puck under duress. He isn’t flashy or explosive but has a detailed, understated approach. He wins draws, he supports the puck in all three zones, he reads time and space to know when to cut in or when to go wide, when to accelerate or slow it down and he showed the vision and passing ability to find his teammates and get them the puck anywhere on the ice. The second year DNS prospect has the frame, the skill and the poise to grab NCAA and QMJHL draft attention. Grade: B+
Oliver Satny | Charlottetown Islanders | QMJHL | L | G | 6’1″ | 174 | Charlottetown Islanders | 2021 | Tabor, CZE | 2003 | 2021-2022: C |
The 6’1″ Satny is a very athletic goalie who has excellent anticipation and game awareness. He is very quick laterally and shows the inside edge power to explode off his strongside post to the top of his crease to make saves. As a penalty killer he reads what the opposing team is trying to set up and he recognizes when teams are looking for a one-timer or when they’re creating movement to generate clear passing seams. He will need to work on his rebound control has continues to mature, but no matter what his athleticism will open eyes and keep his team in games.
Sam Archibald | Charlottetown Islanders | QMJHL | L | C | 5’11” | 161 | Charlottetown Islanders | 2019 | Debert, NS | 2003 | Not yet rated |
Archibald is a hard working straight ahead forward who is at his best when he keeps it simple. The 2003 was drafted at number 229 overall in the 2019 QMJHL draft so he was fighting an up hill battle to be playing for Charlottetown. Archibald is averaging a little over 7:30 in total ice time per-game, but we like his compete and the odds he has overcome to where he is right now. In the defensive zone he is willing to block shots, clear shooting lanes and he shows good quickness when attacking opposing forwards when shutting down the cycle. We feel as he gains both strength and lower body power Archibald will be a strong two-way center in the QMJHL.
Michael Horth | Charlottetown Islanders | QMJHL | L | C | 6’1″ | 185 | Charlottetown Islanders | 2019 | Ste-Catherine, QC | 2003 | Not yet rated |
As an October 2003 Michael Horth is a very interesting player to us. Coming into this year he had only played 31 games over the past two seasons and 66 total over the past three seasons, but he has always had a nose for the net picking up 41 points in that time. He has very good size and straight line that he uses to attack the net for rebounds or to take away time and space while forechecking. Horth is willing to block shots and he finishes his checks with authority. We feel he is a long shot to be on an NHL team’s draft board, but he has a nice combination of size, strength and rawness that could earn him a development camp invite.
Jarrett Todd | Charlottetown Islanders | QMJHL | L | LW | 5’9″ | 165 | Charlottetown Islanders | 2020 | Beaver Banks, NS | 2004 | Not yet rated |
Todd is an undersized ball of speed and compete. He has a powerful stride and can be at top speed in an instant. As a support forward in the neutral zone he takes smart angles for low support and his stick is always prepared for the pass. We know Todd is still adjusting to life in major junior hockey, but his pace and compete will allow him to have a successful junior career and will open professional eyes as he continues to develop.
U16: 2020 East Coast Ice Jam, January 17, 2020: Todd is a smaller forward with a high-end motor that doesn’t give up on the play. Keeps his feet moving through all three zones. Was great on the penalty kill in the games viewed getting out to cover the points quickly and blocked multiple shots. In the offensive zone, he has a nose for the net and doesn’t mind mucking it up in front of the goaltender providing a screen. He is only 5’8, but engages physically and put up 7 points in 7 games during the tournament. GRADE: B+
U16: Monctonian AAA Challenge, January 2, 2020: Jarrett Todd is a forward who has quick feet and is solid on his edges. Displayed a good defensive stick, breaking up multiple plays in his own zone. He has good hands that were shown off by a sequence in the game viewed where he put the puck through a defender’s legs before quickly corralling it and making a nice cross seam pass for a chance. Finished pointless in the tournament, but the offensive ability is clearly there. GRADE: B
U15: Monctonian AAA Challenge, November 2018: Todd demonstrated great edgework down low in the offensive zone and was able to extend possession time because of this. Is a steady forward who showed a active stick on the penalty kill and put pressure on opposing players while defending. Needs to keep working on his top end speed and acceleration. GRADE: C+
Pro-Am Mini Chowder Cup, August 6, 2018: Todd is a pace pusher who doesn’t leave well enough alone. Every shift we watched he appeared as if shot out of a cannon and he sprinted at top speed in order to make plays happen. He is a playmaker, plain and simple, his desire to score is just higher than yours. He uses his aggressiveness in numerous ways: including in the neutral zone by breaking up an entry play with his stick. A tireless worker and a player who gives you all he has.
